Personally I am sick of using earplugs when I dry my hair. Has anyone here tried the extra-quiet hairdryers like Revlon Quiet Pro? If so, how are they and are they worth the extra cost?

I wish they'd do the same for vacuum cleaners. :(

Quiet hair-dryers take forever to dry your hair though:

And quiet vacuum cleaners suck. Or rather they don't.

They used to have these kinds of hair dryers back in the 60's and 70's, they are called "canister" hair dryers and when they where turned on. All the noise they ever made was a mild wind blowing/rushing sound. Not that annoyingly loud, jet engine sound that you get from those pistol type hair dryers. Here are some pictures of what these canister hair dryers looked like. You may find these still at good will or other thrift stores.

Why blow-dry hair at all? In summer if one sat outside with wet hair the sun would dry it fairly quickly....

My hair is past-bottom-of-bum length and thick and I don't own a hair dryer. (not due to noise issues, I just think they contribute to split ends) It's up in a bun all day. :)

I keep my hair short enough so that I can dry it with a towel. I haven't used a hiar dryer in years and really don't miss the noise.

Right now my workaround is using it on 'low'. But thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll pick up a quiet one from the Sharper Image or something and let everyone know how it goes.

One of the reasons I prefer to use a flatiron. :D
