At first, I took the extended release version, but those don't really put you to sleep. Now I'm on the instant release version and I can finally sleep!

It's also better than Zyprexa because I don't have the voracious appetite and weight gain Zyprexa gave me. In fact, since starting, I've lost weight.

I take seroquel as well. I only take 50mg because they say if they up it that it will have more antipsychotic effects. It helps put me to sleep faster but I'm still constantly waking which is a pain.

My doctor has me on instant release of 400-600 mg/day (the last 200 mg is as needed). The dose really hits you, but unfortunately I still get up very early.

I took an extra morning dose of 200 mg this morning, but it's not knocking me out at all.

I think it's because I'm anxious and anxiously waiting for a decision on my short-term disability claim.

The problem for me is that I've largely lost the ability to sleep without medication, which started in January. I got started on 2 mg/day of clonazepam to help me sleep, but that ended up getting titrated to 4 mg/day. I started having difficulty controlling my emotions and concentrating, so I ended up getting put on olanzapine which was titrated up to 10 mg/day. Unfortunately, I started having weight gain and metabolic dysfunction (per my endocrinologist) and the combination of the two medicines still was not enough to put me fully to sleep after a while.

Then my dose of the clonazepam went up to 4-6 mg/day (the last 2 mg/day being as needed) and I was switched first to Seroquel XR 200 mg/day, but that didn't put me to sleep at all, and then to Seroquel instant release 400-600 mg/day (the last 200 mg/day being as needed).

I got only about 5-6 hours of sleep last night. I took a morning dose of 200 mg, but it's not making me sleepy at all.

It seems I am losing the ability to sleep and since I'm not working right now this gives me a lot of time to be bored, ponder, look at the same websites over and over again, etc., while my concentration has not been too good.

Well, I woke up after only 6 hours of sleep, so I've taken my PRN dose to try to get back to sleep.

It's way too early here (2:51 AM), anyway.

Were you on the extended release?

Wow. For me, it puts me right to sleep unless I'm anxious/obsessed about something.

Well, I've taken my 8 o'clock dose, 400 mg of Seroquel and 4 mg of Klonopin.

I expect to awaken at approximately 2:30 AM and to take another 200 mg of Seroquel and 2 mg of Klonopin to finish out my sleep.

I will get up at about 11 AM for good.

If you are taking the Seroquel primarily for sleep rather than its antipsychotic qualities it may be a good idea to ask your psychiatrist about taking a far lower dose. Seroquel works better for sleep at doses less than 100mg. Once you go higher than that it is less sedative and begins really working as an antipsychotic. That is my understanding anyway, as I've recently had to look into this issue myself.

I think my doctor wants the antipsychotic effects as well. Recently, I've had trouble controlling my thoughts and emotions, as well as developing insomnia, heightened sensitivity to noise, and reduced tolerance to normal stress, which seem to be possible early warning signs of a relapse of the psychosis I had at age 14.

It is still strongly sedating for me at this higher dose, however, as I've slept for 11 hours with a brief interruption while on it.

Isn't 6 - 8 hours the suggested amount of sleep for adults to have per night? I wouldn't think sleeping 10 or 12 hours every day is very good for you.

Wow I didn't realize how high of a dose some people need to sleep. I take 300 mg of extended release Seroquel and it knocks me out just fine. I've also known people who just started the medication and the sedative effect was way too intense for them at first.
