Hi, I've been lurking on these forums for awhile as they're often one of the first links to pop up whenever I get in a blue funk and do a Google search on my symptoms/issues.

I'm not actually sure whether I'm on the spectrum or whether my depersonalization/derealization (a disorder where you feel unreal and dissociated from the world around you, fun stuff) just mimics the symptoms of autism/Aspergers/etc.

(For example, I have a tough time comprehending and following directions or when someone relays a lot of info to me at once, but this could just as easily be attributed to my dissociative problems as it could be to autism.)

Anyway, I'll keep this short. I'm 21, female (although I think the site should have an option to identify as non-binary. Maybe the forum host doesn't allow it, just throwing it out there. 8) ), from Indiana. A college student currently fully subsisting on parental income. Very grateful.

Some of the things I like: writing, museums (in keeping with these two interests, I'm trying and failing to write a thesis on the environmental psychology of museums.), music. Gotta love music. :P I compose music on my computer even though I have little to no formal musical knowledge. I don't know how to read music, which chords are called what, anything like that, but I have a decent ear and absolutely love attempting to give form to the s**t playing in the background in my head all the time. :) I'm also very into 80s synthpop, especially somewhat alternative but still catchy stuff like New Order (my avvie is one of their album covers) and Depeche Mode.

Video games are pretty great, especially mid-2000s era back when games actually had compelling stories and gameplay was simpler yet more important than graphics...Promised I'd keep this short, so. :P

Text-based games are also cool. I'm making a tongue-in-cheek dating simulation game featuring myself and my friends as the "characters." It's in the style of Japanese text-based dating sims, using a visual novel engine/software. It's less creepy than it decidedly sounds, if you knew my group of friends, they find it quite funny. Just a joke and a way for me to blow off steam when I have free time to work on it.

Decided I should add all that weird s**t in there because the best way to get to know someone is to have them get perversely specific about their weirdest interests, correct? :P

More than enough about me. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! This community is great (or so my intel gathered from lurking has informed me.. :o ). Very glad this place exists.

Yeah, can't remember the first time I actually came across the site, but it seems to show up as one of the top results for a lot of autism-related and even just mental health topics in general, which is good!

A write-in option would be awesome. Although it's better than the sites whose gender pull-down menu says "Male, Female, or Cheese." Am I just crazy, or is that one actually pretty common? Get that it's a joke and all, but...really? x)

Thanks for the welcome! Also, I like your signature.
