I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at the age of 14 after having been diagnosed with a TON of other things prior to that... Naturally, I don't really believe I am... I think the psychiatrists are just trying to guess at what is wrong with me... Not a single one of them has tried to take the time to get to know me before the diagnose me and start prescribing me pills, which I of course, have trouble taking as I don't see the point in it. I do get depressed sometimes, but I feel like, doesn't every body get depressed sometimes? I have never, had a manic episode though.... I really don't think I have even had a hypomanic episode. Though I do sometimes have a short attention span, I also tend to focus on the same thing for hours. It just really depends on the task. The traits I have are not bipolar traits... Not at all. I only recently started learning about what exactly autism is, and I do think a lot of my traits are autistic traits, however I am not sure how to go about getting a diagnosis without insurance. :( Any help? advice? thoughts?

There's sometimes depressed and major depression. Two different things. Sorry, I hate the whole 'doesn't everybody get depressed' thing.

Do you think you need your moods to be controlled? If you have a poor attention span you might want to look into ADHD. And there is a non-hyperactive subtype with ADHD too.

I wish I could get misdiagnosed as bipolar. I'm pretty sure I am but doctors keep denying even doing an assessment.

You know yourself. I'm amazed that a psychiatrist could come up with a diagnosis of Bipolar at age 14 (though I'm no expert). Are you still seeing a psychiatrist? If so you could ask to be tested for Aspergers. Otherwise you could take some online tests for Aspergers to confirm your suspicions that this is what you have instead.

I have done several of the "unofficial" aspie/autism tests and every one of them came back with results saying that I have a high possibility of autism. I do still see a psychiatrist, but he has said that he can not diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorders.... Probably just because he can't prescribe me a bunch of pills for it... :(

I have a friend who is bipolar well actually an ex girl friend. She was only diagnosed about 5 years ago at the age of 38. i don't know much about the subject but I do know what she is like and how her bipolar affects her. We all just used to think she was a bit hyper and out of control as none of us knew anything about such things back in the day. She is a highly intelligent and quick itted person and can be quite overwhelming at times to the point of being the centre of attention and actually really getting in to people heads and really over the top. She didn't really start to show the down sides much till only a few years ago and now she gets very low to the point of not wanting to be on the planet. I don't know anything about you but it doesn't sound to me like you are showing signs of bipolar from what you have said but then again like I say, I don't know a great deal about it only from what i know of my friend. I hope this helps in some way.
