I am 58 with 6 children and by mid-next month my 12th grandchild will be born.

I have been diagnosed with strong PTSD and have two "informal" tests showing solid Autism Spectrum Disorder. (That was all in the last 2 years.) I am going through a formal test at the VA next week.

Do I bother working on this now? I figure that if I will be around even just one day I might as well make that day better.

Thanks for the feedback (in advance)!

I would think with strong (I am guessing that means bad?) PTSD you let the people taking care of you do their assessment so it can inform their care of you. If you're not needing care maybe it only matters if you're interested. But I would save any arguing with people taking care of me for stuff that matters and it sounds like they are recommending this and you are somewhat neutral. So I would just go ahead.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. For what it is worth, I was a few years younger than you when my AS became official. Shortly after that the PTSD became official too. In my case however, it was not related to my military service. I had a very hard time trying to understand its origins though and the "professional" viewpoints didn't help any either until I ran accross the work of Jonathan Shay. His work was with veterans for the most part, however the concepts that he puts forth apply to those of us who developed PTSD from other causes as well. I strongly recommend that you check his work out. As a result of my reading his works and listening to his interviews, I can finally understand how and why I am as I am. Now I just need to try to manage the problems I have. Oh well, one step at a time I guess.

Thanks to all!

I just took the long version of the Aspi-quiz:
Your neurodiverse (Aspie) score: 163 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 51 of 200
You are very likely neurodiverse (Aspie)

AQ - 35

BTW: What is the "Veteran" tag that is part of your signatures?

It looks to me like you've already made up your mind. Great way to look at life, you'll go a long way with that kind of attitude. :)
