Hey Gang, For the past two days I've been doing a work evaluation for a local good will while the tasks are often remedial in nature I have found that after coming home form the job I am wanting to go to sleep because I am tired despite the fact I was only sorting clothes and walking the floor. Now my question is could reason why I am so tired is because I am being over stimulated and not having a place to calm my self down at work and keeping it bottled up? I'm exposed to bright lights and often loud noises PA pages and music all day. Because of this evaluation I have neglected to do my home work (which is my #1 priority) because when I come home I actively seek out my bed room because it is dark cool and quiet.

I woke up at 2:30 this morning trying to catch up on two days worth of class work online never minding my actual home work and finding my self getting annoyed by the fact I am tired and I still have a full day of classes ahead of me and more work will be piled on top of the work I have yet to touch.

I know this weekend I'll pretty much be focusing on catching up on last week's work while trying to do the upcoming week's work.

Anybody have any advice on what I can do to manage both the job and class work so that my education remains my top priority and wont suffer?

Thanks

I worked at a fashion department store as a maintainer and I think the part that bothered me the most was the voice paging. Might it be possible to ask that they not have so much of it? For example, in the afternoon when I was the only maintainence I would have my own pager and they could use that to reach me. But that didn't always work because for some reason, NTs love to page and did it anyways, but it did help to tell the operator that I had the pager.

Hey sorry what I meant to say by PA pages is Attn shoppers we're bringing out anchor TV sets outdated VHS players and used cloths with odd white spots on them that on top of pages to various managers and the in house music and various conversations between employees and customers. the various conversations I don't mind too much it's just the PA pages music the bright store lights and the loud noises from the salvage areas there's employees whom likes to have their rap music blaring. My main concern is my education because of this evaluation my home work is suffering and so will my class work. What can I do?!

You may now have to make a "cruel choice" and decide do you want the class or do you want the job? If you are already failing and it doesn't look like you can bring the grade up I would drop the class and take it next year. Drop it before its too late and you will not have a bad grade. If there is a chance of saving the class, I would drop Goodwill - unless you really need the money in which case drop the class. Unfortunately, I don't think we aspies can work and go to school full time like so many neurotypical people say they do. Also, I wonder if the NT people lie about this too.

I wonder if they will let you wear noise-canceling headphones at work, since it doesn't sound like you need to have constant contact with other people to do your job.

That doesn't take care of the bright lights, though. However, I believe bright lights would be present in most work environments.
