I thought this was an interesting satellite image. We all hear about carbon dioxide emissions and climate change but nobody hardly ever discusses the amount of methane that gets released into the atmosphere and it's much worse that carbon dioxide! There is so much of it being released in such a large area around here I wonder if it has something to do with our massive heat waves and drought we are experiencing much of the time now?

There is a lot of strip mining coal in the area. Open holes in the earth, stuff comes out.

The biggest contributor to global warming is farting cows.

I guess everybody is silent because noöne wants to be taxed for farting. Shhh, don?t tell anyone!

Well, if methane is so much worse than carbon dioxide, there?s an easy solution: make sure to burn all their farts

Even in back in the early Seventies (long before anyone ever heard of global warming) I heard about "biggest source of ...cows farting" thing. Ever since Ive wondered why they cant run hoses out to the pastures of the land to siphon that off and use it as a not-fossil fuel to heat homes and run cars.

Doing that, combined with finding ways to siphon off the oil from the faces of teenage kids, would make us energy independent!

The tree hugger alarmists (global warmers) will want to close down the the entire beef industry and let the existing cattle die off of old age. Then, of course, blame the rise in unemployment on the republicans.

Methane from organisms can be addressed with bacterial cultures. Basically giving cows their probiotics. They are looking into using bacteria present in kangaroo guts.

Btw cow burps are far worse than their farts emissions wise.

Only a percentage of human produce much methane. This is down to genetic factors and gut bacteria.

Ladies and gentlemen...behold the Methane Map????

Doesn't it worry anyone to see such a large part of the US leaking methane? It's not just that one red area. All the lighter colored states have methane leaks and this covers a very large part of the US.

well yeah. given that too often the blame on the greenhouse effect is placed solely on co2 when methane (and others) are more powerful.
are there any other maps from that NASA satellite of other areas?

here's one i found. i like the colors.

SHHH! Don't give the EPA any ideas!
Isn't that also the site of a large native American Reservation?
They will force taxes on us because of the Earth passing gas and to pay for their removal on a huge federal seizure of land.

I blame it mainly on cars, which I hate. Two-ton glass and steel coffins, they are.

still not as much as cows and other ruminants. (by the way, they produce more methane by belches than farts)

...synthetic beef! it's novel, certainly but it's happening!!

cars don't produce significant methane but they do emit carbon monoxide, itself a wimpy little GHG but it is involved in the formation of ozone.

There isn't much heat waves and droughts at the moment, and blocking events are caused by the jet streams being modulated by solar activity. I wouldn't worry too much about methane, or any other gas for that matter. Everything is perfectly fine with the exception that we're heading for a new ice age, and there is nothing we can do about it.
