I've been working as a data entry operator for 35 years.

I've been working at the same place for almost 34 years.

I like my job okay. It's a living LOL

I haven't been very good at saving money, so I'm fortunate that I'm getting a pension when I retire in 8 years.

To me, it's much preferable working than being on disability.

My stepfather told me once that I might be good at a job in data entry....how does it usually go? Are people nice?

I'd actually like to work in a library (and when I was younger, all I wanted to do was become an animator or a marine biologist) or become a writer, but, a data entry job would be fine, too. :)

I'm hoping to get a career in art or music. I know that it's hard to sell your own music, so I'm also planning to study music production. I'm also planning to have a vintage store where I sell clothing that I found or designed. If none of that works out, I'll probably work at a library. That's not my dream job, but it's not too bad. I've worked in a library before and it wasn't that bad. I'm on disability right now. Mainly because I'm too depressed to handle crappy entry level jobs.

I have mental things & physical disabilities that limit me besides Aspergers & I'm on disability now but when I feel up to going back to work I'll look for a job doing custodial because I've done it before & work was OK when management left me alone to do it. I like that it was something I felt I did well & was fairly routine.

I worked at a medical library when I was 18. This was during the pre-computer, card-catalog days. This was 1979.

I really loved my job. On break, I would read about abnormal psychology and genetic disorders.

If you could get a library job, I believe this would be a great job for somebody on the Spectrum.

As for my data-entry job. I'm very proficient at it, so people ignore my quirks, by and large. Sometimes, I get in trouble for doing things like meowing in the hallways. The key: make yourself indispensable, do your job, and people won't hassle you.

I am an educator. I find the routine of a schedule (as the public school system uses) to work for me. The school environment was also one that I grew up with (as a student), so it was not a major shock for me to become a teacher. I now work as a teacher who helps students on a one on one basis.

I'm a work at home mom, doing freelance art. I prefer it to my previous job as a library assistant (they called us library assistants even though we still did everything people think librarians do). If I was just doing data entry, I would have loved it. I am great at data entry. But they had me working with the public and running the teen game night. I do not like the public. I never want to work with them again, ever. People don't go to the library to read, they go there to hang out or play on the computers and be rude to the staff.
I swear, if I had a nickel for every time someone ignored a sign we had posted all over the place, I'd be rich. We'd have a huge sign at the entrance saying the printer was dead, a sign at every computer, three signs on the the desk and on the printer itself, and people would stare at the signs while asking me to print their papers!! And then they'd get mad at me, saying "Well you should have a sign." Apparently it's impertinent to point out all the signs and worthy of getting written up... o.O

In my experience, knowing what others can do won't help you much, though it may help you, who knows.

I'm currently unemployed, though I have spent a considerable amount of time developing an Indie Game (Independent Game), so I guess that's my current job. The engine I'm using involves a little bit of coding, but other than that it's pretty simple.

While I can't offer much in the way of what might work for you, I can tell you what doesn't work for me, maybe that will help.

What doesn't work for me:
Factory jobs/repetitive jobs
Customer Service
Food Service (usually, though I have worked at a coffee house)
Loading/Unloading jobs (loading or unloading a truck)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I wish I could have worked at your library. I actually got written up for looking for a book on my break! :(

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of my starting my career as an attorney.

Obviously, if I've been doing it that long, I enjoy it.

I actually can't work due to my varying special needs and delays. It's really hard to explain all of the things that make it hard for me. Anyway, what I want to do is be a writer. My only issue is that I've never finished any of my stories.

I have the same kind of problem, not being able to finish what I started. It's usually because my interests either change, or I get burnt out on it and forget about doing it for a month or more.

Actually I started quite simply, with enterbrain's engines. For the earliest beginner, I'd recommend RPG Maker VX Ace (one that I use currently), it has a scripting language but you need not write code to build a game, there are also a lot of scripts out there that are created by users that you can use to enhance the game's playability (like making an Action Battle System, which is like zelda). But it creates 2d games. If you're wanting to jump into 3d games, I'd recommend something like Game Maker (I have Game Maker 8, personally), though you'd have to learn how to code in GML (it's coding language) to make such a game, it's very capable of doing a lot. And though I haven't seen much of it yet, I'd also recommend looking into Unity 2d, it's a free engine that gives the tools to make 2d games (and from what I'm seeing of it, also games with 3d graphics and 2d perspectives).

I also started teaching myself Ruby (specifically RGSS3, which RPG Maker VX Ace uses), though I have also touched a bit on GML, Javascript, and a little C# (not enough to code a game). I'm personally still in the learning process, but since my project uses scripts, I'm kind of learning as I'm creating, since I have to change the code every now and then to suit my game.

If you're wanting to break into indie gaming, you need only an engine, creativity, and determination. There are a lot of online guides to help you learn how to code in just about any coding language, so if courses are too expensive for you, you definitely have something to fall back on to start the process. There are also boat loads of free resources that you can use to make games, even 3d ones (though 3d is less common). If it's something that interests you, I can point you toward some sites that will help you get started (though I'd send them in a PM, I'm not sure the mods would like me to post links in the threads lol).

While I've done MANY other jobs in various industries, I just finished working another year or so of construction & made the switch back to the service industry working as support staff in a new bar/restaurant until I can work my way up to either the bar or serving. It's a fun industry with great people and can be quite lucrative. The idea is to continue saving and investing money towards future goals of doing some small renovation contracting & then adding a real estate licence to the mix so I can sell places I fix up myself.
