Hello :D

I'm blaziken25 and I am 16 and live in New Zealand.
I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder about two months ago.
I went to France straight afterwards and had minimal freakouts - I was so proud. The adults had to look out for me though.
Metro trains aren't easy for people with autism 8O

I love computers and I want to work with them when I am older.

That's all for now.

Hi! Welcome! Computers are awesome! They're allowing us all to communicate right now! :-)

If you don't mind me asking, how do you feel being diagnosed has affected your life? It sounds like it's been a generally positive thing, but have there been any drawbacks? I suspect I may be "on the spectrum" but am uncertain about whether to seek an official diagnosis. This is mainly because I generally dislike labels but I imagine there may be some benefits, especially if one can own the label. But anyway, I'd be interested to know about your experience.

Yeah....the Paris Metro is pretty difficult for ANYBODY to navigate. The RER, too.

Yes indeed they are - aren't computers amazing?

It was a positive thing for me because now I can finally get the help that I have needed over the years. It also lets people know that I can't be treated the same as everyone else (for example - in France I needed a parent or teacher to help me around the metro and generally just look after me more than the other students).
As far as drawbacks go - I don't really think there are any. People already thought I was odd.
And for getting a diagnosis - I was going through therapy for anxiety issues and my therapist wanted me to undergo an Autism assessment. I don't really know how to just go and get one though.

Indubitably! :-)

That makes sense. Do you find people react to you differently when they have a label to apply to you?

Anyway, yeah, I'm not really sure about the details of seeking a diagnosis either. I should probably figure that out, huh?

computers are truly fascinating little machines. littler and littler, from vast vacuum tubes to minuscule clips!

france does sound very nice, i have not had the experience of going on a metro, just the buses here are enough thanks! where in france did you go?

i can really understand how you mean by those thinking of you as odd with/without labels. i mean my peers here seem to tar me with a different brush than most others, they suspect i am "off" but most of them do not know of my autism diagnosis. (which i got when i was 4)

disclosure is not an easy decision, gotta be careful who you tell sometimes.

welcome to the club! 8)
