I'm going to start riding a public bus to and from school, and disability fare is half price. How do I prove disability, do I need a disability card or something like that?

probably have to get special ID from the Bus people. they'll likely have a form for your doctor or agency to fill out.

It depends on what country you are in. I am assuming most Western countries and even others, have a similar process than the US. You must have a diagnosis from a qualified medical professional, such as a diagnostic specialist, after being referred by your psychologist or doctor. They will conduct a battery of tests, interview your family and others, and determine whether you have a disability. In the US, to show that you are disabled you must be shown to have significant impairments in one or more major life activities, like thinking, speaking and socializing. The Federal govt. (of the United States) recognizes certain diagnoses as automatically constituting a disability under the ADA, and ASD is among these. It is an expensive process, and time consuming, and invasive of your privacy, but this is what I had to do.

If you already have a diagnosis, check their website. They probably have a process.

You have to find out the criteria for "disability" for the town where the bus is located.

I would tend to doubt that you will get a "disability pass"--but who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky.

How are your classes coming along?

Well might not be quite the same where you are but around where i live I just had to give proof from a doctor I have disabilities and take it to the public transit place where they made me an ID. So if I am asked about why I am using the discount fare I just show them that but much of the time they don't ask since look younger than I am so they probably usually just assume I'm a student under 18 who also use the discount fare.

But yeah if you have diagnoses you could probably get a disability pass also being on SSI helps since you have to be disabled for that so being on that also proves disability but you'd have to see how it works in your local area as it might be a bit different than here.

I road two bus systems that offered a disability discount. For the 1st I went to the bus station with paperwork from my doc about my eyesight condition & the bus made me an ID to show when boarding & pay half price. The system I currently use you just pay half fair when riding & say your disabled or you can buy a monthly pass or 10 ride one which cost you the price of 10 rides & saying your disabled when buying it gives it to you at half price.

1) You get the necessary paperwork
2) Go to your doctor, preferably a specialist if you have one and have them fill it out and certify it.
3) turn in said paperwork to the proper people.
4) enjoy.

I have done this before for other stuff.

Are you actually ON disability? I had to provide the bus office with a copy of my award letter from the Social Security office from when I was placed on disability/

I'd imagine that it varies by location. When I got a reduced-fare bus pass it was only available to those on SS(D)I or those above a certain age.

Call the bus station and ask them. Most likely just a letter from the treating DR. will do.

I don't think you can. http://www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/trav ... howtoapply which seems to be in the area your profile suggests links to a document which says:

"Please note that disorders such as autism (unless severe), asperger’s syndrome, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and ADHD are not covered by this Government definition. "
