Bob Beckel was Vice President Walter Mondale's presidential campaign manager.

this should have nothing to do with politics [but if it does, then we are in a lot more trouble than we realize], and EVERYTHING to do with basic human decency.

Mind you I don't watch FNC nor do I even have cable but I believe 'The Five' is supposed to be kind of a quasi-comedy show, Bob Beckel is actually a former Democratic operative and ran Walter Mondale's presidential campaign back in 1984. Beckel is a pretty unhinged guy and says a lot of profane things, him and Ed Schultz come from the same mold pretty much where they play role of the white working class blue collar union Democrat.

I haven't seen a thread about that street harassment vid yet on here(perhaps I missed it) but most of that harassment was pretty weak not to mention she was walking around Manhattan so just the law of averages you would have some people try to talk to you during that time. I get "harassed" or talked to by strangers quite a bit when I walk around, it all seems pretty silly.

I didn't think so, either, but it is often difficult to understand when you are or aren't in political mode. :D

all of politics should be about basic human decency, a quaint concept in these times. I hate politics as it is practiced here [where collateral damage is considered fair game], it is a dirty business. but if one doesn't want to be skinned alive by the opposition, one must put up one's dukes and play along with the slimy game. but for a GOP de facto mouthpiece to endorse the cretins who heckled this woman is beyond the pale. it makes me think we need a new Joseph Welch and his rejoinder to the modern day sen. McCarthys and their fox mouthpiece, "at long last, have you no sense of decency, sir?"

I think it was the supreme court justice louis brandeis who said ?The makers of the Constitution conferred the most comprehensive of rights and the right most valued by all civilized men?the right to be let alone.? both you and this young woman deserve no less than that.

I'm not sure "god bless you, have a good a day" or the like counts as heckling. Most of the "catcalling" seemed pretty harmless and respectful, couple creeps but again this is over the course of 10 hours in Manhattan.

Beckel(who again is a partisan Democrat) has a history of saying offensive things and that's an image he tries to cultivate for himself as a talking head, I think he was trying to be funny here. I think even you can admit the lady in that video is quite attractive.

on the subject of "god bless you" I can tell you an army story of this GI in my section who made a high art of cussing people out sweetly, he would say to an officer, "f[bleep] you sir" in a way that sounded like "thank you" but [at least to my ears] was clearly "f[bleep] you." the only way I could put it that might be totally transparent, would be to liken what that woman went through to what a young "twink" goes through in jail or prison, being led down the gauntlet of the cellblock to his destination cell, enduring all the catcalls and obvious ogling. how would YOU like it if those comments and unwanted attention were directed at YOU? again, people have the basic human right of being left alone, that is routinely flouted in this coarse day and age. this should NOT be about politics at all. only in a quasi-fascist nation [what we are now] does politics intrude here.

I live in downtown Phoenix which has quite a bit less foot traffic than Manhattan and random weirdos interact with me every day, I only wish it would be as nice as "have a good day" and "god bless you". The worst are the panhandlers some of which can be really aggressive and this is towards me as an adult man so I have to imagine its even worse for a woman, I've also had some pretty mean homophobic things said to me by as*holes out the window of their cars. I think I get street harassment and to me most of what this woman received was pretty harmless.

I sympathize with the right to be left alone and I would 100% agree with your assertion of this being a semi-fascist country but I extend that right more towards actual oppressive forces like the police and government than some dude that makes eye contact with me on the street.

Imagine experiencing this every single day, every single time you go out. It might become tiring, neh?

You made it about politics with your thread title, and then followed it up by trying to tie the whole thing to Republicans.

that is horses**t. you deny that fox is a de facto GOP mouthpiece? I know you think I'm stupid, but you are increasingly just insulting me with malice aforethought. it is plain that YOUR side of the aisle is making this political. but you pin it on me. typical.

I don't have a side of the aisle, I am against naked partisanship though, and you're often nakedly partisan.

Really, you should cut it out with the aggrieved victim act, let me spell this one out for you:

You've taken Bob Beckel's comments, a person who it has been pointed out to you is a liberal, and conflated them with some sort of official statement from FOX, which you've then conflated with the GOP; I don't know how much more political you could make it, which is what I was pointing out in my reply to your post lamenting the politicization of the issue. You can either complain about the political angle or work the political angle, not both.

You should also cut it out with the mind reading act, your imaginings of my intents and motives are laughably off base, to say nothing of the mischaracterization of my posts as "maliciously insulting" you. I have never insulted you, while you, on the other hand, have not hesitated to claim that I'm just toying with people, that I'm motivated by malice, that I'm "pissing on your leg and telling you it's rain", etc despite having met me personally and presumably knowing better; perhaps it's I who should be feeling aggrieved and complaining of malice, as saying nasty things that you know to be untrue is practically the definition of such.

then why do you side with the GOP in so many ways?

if somebody or group of somebodies are doing their best to hamper me at the polls, and enable insurance companies to deny me health care, how is that NOT a victimization?

you still deny that fox is a de facto fox mouthpiece. EVERYTHING that comes out of their mouth is a political "dog whistle" of some kind. EVERYTHING. "fair and balanced" my foot. :x

I frankly don't have time to go through your old posts [like you did with mine] to find all the instances of gaslighting and other forms of your invalidation and patronizing attitude towards me. you deny that is insulting, so there can be no retort to one who denies the reality of what he is doing. I cannot reconcile how you behave with me here as opposed to the meetups. I suspect that if I had avoided my mention of hot topics in mixed company you would have gone off at me there also. OTOH, wrong planet is supposed to be a place one doesn't have to fear speaking one's mind. so I do and you don't like it [and me] because i am not 100% in lapdog accord with your philosophy. you admit "toying with people" - how is that not insulting? how is that NOT passive-aggressive? that is just like rush, to deny his blatant insults are insults, the perfect invalidation AFAIC.
