It's official, the GOP has won the US senate and could gain up to 9 seats. Pick ups in Arkansas, Iowa, North Carolina, Montana, Colorado, South Dakota, and West Virginia. Alaska hasn't came in yet and Louisiana is heading for a run off election in December. Race has been called for Janene Shaheen in New Hampshire against Scott Brown but it's close he has not conceded. Shockingly close race in Virginia but Warner looks like he'll eek it out by the slimmest of margins but could be awhile. Mitch McConnell blew out Clinton-backed Allison Grimes and will become Majority Leader, Georgia goes Republican without a run off, Pat Robert was able to beat back independent Greg Orman, no other Republican held seats were vulnerable.

Republican Scott Walker won his 3rd election in 4 years for Governor of Wisconsin, John Kaisich won comfortably in Ohio, Rick Snyder won in Michigan, Rick Scott won in Florida. Paul LePage has a narrow lead in Maine Republicans have won the governorship in Arkansas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and look strong in Maryland and Connecticut. Close races in Colorado, Vermont, Kansas, and probably Alaska. Lot of interesting races, not all your typical red or blue states. Not all bad for Dems, fended of challenges in New Hampshire/Rhode Island/Oregon and picked up Pennsylvania.

Not too much movement in the house, GOP strengths its majority.

Voters legalized marijuana in Washington, D.C. and Oregon, medical marijuana won a solid majority in Florida but short of 60% needed for a constitutional amendment, Alaska's results yet to come.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Angus King of Maine switch caucuses to the GOP side now that they have the majority, I imagine Joe Manchin will be heavily recruited too.

Not a big fan of too many of the Republicans this year, a lot of Neocons and establishment types.

Obama in a tough spot now, I suspect we'll see him try to govern by executive order but I think that could be a major mistake for as it will not be popular and could hurt Dems in 2016. Does give Dems something to run against but they still control the presidency so I think that's a wash at best.

I like how Florida turned out. It was a very close and nasty gubernatorial race but Scott won in the end.
Representative Daniel Webster has also won reelection.
Florida 75% passed a conservation amendment, dropped #2 plus a third one changing judge appointment, and kept every incumbent in a state office while also strengthening the republican hold on the state house.
My city council has 1 incumbent who's signs were obnoxiously everywhere voted out and another departing, they were both replaced by my candidates. My county board candidates won as well.
Obama is in the same position as Bush was in '06.
The nation seems to have experienced a huge red tsunami in national and state governments.
All I have to say now is that I am glad it's over, I don't have to deal with any ads or signs for 2 years, and I can go to sleep tonight knowing Florida has not been transformed into a blue state like Cali.

florida once again chooses a scoundrel. that tells me something is very wrong down there. no matter, GOP still lacks the numbers for overrides, and #43 will get callouses on his veto pen hand. lots of executive orders will be issued just to get things done in the face of united gop obstructionism. more gridlock. I hope they're satisfied.

This election is proof of the power of propaganda. Democracy is officially dead. The demise of the United States of America is imminent. If the people who voted red in this election thinks that the "job creators" are now going to revive "America," their great delusion is about to be exposed.

once again it was "divide and conquer" per the GOP playbook and a plurality once again got played. will they ever learn? only they think they were smart. we will soon see gridlock like there never was. and NO economic improvement because that is not what the GOP wants, that would only cut into their profits. hope they are satisfied. :hmph:

and the other side says the same thing when they lose. boo woo.

the dems have been slowly killing our nation for years, also we are a republic not a democracy. FYI

but guess what they voted for those people. the people wanted those people. so guess how it works. if we were a democracy those same people would vote for stuff and if they had more than your side by just a few then they could do whatever they want to your side. so be glad we live in a republic based on laws that protect the minority regardless of what side has the majority at the time.

I've come to accept that both sides of the politics are ruining our nation its not the dems or republicans its both of them regardless of which one is in charge, the only real problem would be when the republicans win the president and keep both houses. our past trend has been swaping party president every 8 years. 8 or a dem then 8 of a repub then repeat.

If they had a real chance yeah. I have in the past but the main one (green party) just loses year after year with no real gain. the constitutionalist and other 3rd party that ran in my state also lost with no real votes, it always comes down to dem vrs reb. atleast the stupid primary measure didn't pass or it'd been just dem vs dem here. I know my vote doesn't matter, but atleast I can vote for the republican or constitutionalist, or the independent, etc. if It came down to voting for just 2 similar guys from the same party I'd just go unregister if such a thing is possible . as it is. most dem and repubs, are already pretty similar. both just want to screw us over to get their piece of the pie and not be the last one standing on the sinking ship when it goes under.

Gridlock leads to changes in the balance of democrats and republicans, in the senate, particularly, and always has, one way or the other, as similar.

The result of this mid-term is highly influenced as always by lower turn-outs of younger folks, and minorities, than in the presidential election year who do tend to more likely not vote republican, overall.

The best news in this is for Hillary, as it makes her prospects after 2 more long years of greater gridlock than ever, better than ever, of course, with all common sense and historical facts taken into account.

It's just a soap opera, predictable as always, and I'll catch up in a couple of years, on the next election day, with predictable results with the Democrats back in control of the Senate, retaining the executive branch, until the next soap opera mid-term election occurs, with a good possibility of the Republicans getting the senate back, with nary a change for anything in real policy change for the next two years at least.

It truly is predictable, and status quo, more than anything else, again, a frigging soap opera where the corporate machine is the real decider in lobbying efforts, not too far, from what controls real soap operas, yes, one and similar, they both are.

If the laws of gambling were in effect, one could say, in metaphor, that the 'house' loses every time, and in this case, truly the house is, the American People, in the coming years, as usual, per recent historical precedence, and or presidents.

"my side" is humanity. My side is to care about each other and help each other, not to climb over each other to get what we want. Democrats and Conservatives may be basically the same, but Democrats at least make an effort to appear civilized. Life is not about money, status, power. Life is about love. That is "my side," even if I have nothing, which is virtually the case, by my choice.

The Red wave continues. The Alaska and Louisiana senate seats have become republican. Louisiana's 5th and 6th house seats have stayed republican. The GOP has a very slight edge awaiting recount on the 2nd AZ district. If won it will be the biggest GOP house majority since the 20's.

Oh good, I hope we get some tasty gridlock now. We're all safer when those idiots can't pass any more new laws.

Of course His Highness can keep trying to rule by Imperial Decree, er Executive Order. But a few of the smarter Dems are realizing that's a trend that's likely to bite them in the ass.

In my honest opinion, if you think that voting Democrat OR Republican will fix the problem, then you are the problem. The two party system is one of the worst things to ever happen to our political system, and if we ever hope to fully restore this constitutional republic, then the current system has to go.

the problem with the present system is that if one doesn't vote for the lesser of two evils, one will ALWAYS get the greater of two evils. how does one enable a critical mass of voters to opt for better? have long thought that all elections need a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" category that would require a re-vote.
