Greetings! I'm also from last week's Slashdot crowd, age 23, never heard of Asperger's before, now fascinated.

I guess I've done okay in society, school, work, but never really felt understood. However, a lot of the quiz on rdos.net sounds just like me, my thoughts, my awkwardness, my interests. And to top it off, the parts on 'friendliness, naivete, cultural independence' sound exactly like me, the parts of me that people never really understand. I'm glad to think some of my quirks might be part of AS---something other people also have---rather than being alone with an arbitrarily odd set of personality traits.

Treatment for childhood depression left me uneasy about psychiatry, so I don't think I'll seek professional diagnosis for now, but I'd love to learn more about Aspies, how others understand you, and anything you notice/wonder about me.

Some of my interests: Linguistics, math, cooperative living, Quakerism / nonviolence, Nahuatl / Mexico, linux, sustainable communities...

Greetings and salutations!

I think the best way to learn about aspies is to browse through the forums; there is a lot of stuff here.

Linguistics, eh? Any particular area?

Thank you! I've been lurking on the forums, but haven't quite caught into the flow of it yet -- it'll just take a bit of time, I suppose.

Areas within linguistics...well, in college I studied the pronunciation of Nahuatl...learned some of it firsthand in rural Mexico, where, being a foreigner, my oddities were expected and welcomed. But I could be interested in other areas too.

synchro's post on "joy" reminds me of a couple other interests: forests, mountains, and bikes / non-car transit
