That was a question asked in the chatroom and I thought it would be nice to ask it here in the forums.

My answer is emotional/mental abuse. Physical abuse can heal with the passage of time for most things but emotional/mental abuse lasts for the entire life.

I'd have to agree with you on that one...

It's seems to me that mental and emotional abuse are always present when physical abuse is there. So, I'd say mental.

Being ignored and given silence when
you seek a voice, then when they command
a voice from you, you haven't developed
the skill and are further ignored for being
a moron, or mentally retarded.

Silence is the worst abuse! Confused Crying or Very sad

I really can't see this in subjective terms in the fact that I was subject to both, not only at school, but at home as well, (Father and Stepmother) I see them as being the same. The scars of emotional abuse take a long time to begin to heal, if they fully heal at all.

Whilst the physical trauma of physical abuse heal rather quickly, the emotional trauma of it takes as long to heal as the scars of emotional abuse, if they heal at all.

I'd like to furthermore state that I didn't vote on either of the answers of the poll due precisely to the fact that abuse is abuse,period.--Both forms suck equally, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, that's the worst part, the rejection you get from others because you just can't win no matter what you do. I hear stupid folks tell victims if they just "talk it out" with the bullies, they could, in time, make them their friends. Oh pul-ease on some cheese! Since when did bullies target people they remotely would want in their crowd? Their entire purpose is to make your life hell and you feel sorry for having the nerve to exist. Why the f***ing h*ll would I want them as buddies?

Physical abuse is often easier to spot; verbal and mental abuse can take on many different means, which are not often obvious. And of course verbal and mental abuse encompasses the games people play to scapegoat the victim.

Perhaps that's why some Aspies get in so much trouble when they respond physically to years of mental abuse (i.e. the kid who gets suspended for grabbing his bully to drag him to the teacher, or just sock their assailant in the face, etc.).

i agree with louis about the psychological/emotional bullying. and that happens with girls all the time, as they tend to use physical violence less (i did say "tend", note). certainly it happened to me, and still happens in schools, where it's also far more difficult to deal with.

I think physical is worse, because it does the harm of both mental and physical at the same time. If they're bullying you physically, it's an emotional attack as well. It's the physical stuff thats the reason the mental stuff is a problem for me.

Mental/emotional. I, too, have suffered greatly at the hands of bullies, and the suffering has come in many forms... but mental abuse still lingers with me, while the physical wounds have healed.

And I, too, have responded physically, only to get in more trouble - and make the abuse worse as the bullies begin intentionally setting me off...

Actually, it's the mental/emotional abuse that's done the worse for me but the physical is part of it. The fact that they hated me and treated me badly, whether it's physically and/or mentally, has scarred me for life.

Mental/emotional is worse, because in physical I can easily beat the living daylights out of the bullies. If they really wanted a fight I would kill them in a guillotine choke or simply smash away at their skulls until I cracked them. I can be as brutal as the music I listen to.

Hmm, tough question. I'm not really fussed. Both kinds of abuse were rife in our family, noone was picked on more than the others, because noone was spared. My siblings are almost experts at psychological bullying, while I liked to deal with it by making them go too far and drawing my mother into the battle. My twin brothers were always the ones who would make it physical; any loose item was a weapon, and you always faced them both. And then there was the punishments from Mum for going too far with the abuse: the strap, missing meals, kicked out of the house etc. Always good that we had a shed practically stocked in case of Y2K, and an outdoor fridge.
Call me a bully, but looking back at those days, it was really quite fun. I remember that it used to hurt, in the moment, but I can't recall the feelings at all. Although the abuse from my family hurt more than abuse at school, this long after childhood, it has turned into a way of showing we like each other, than true abuse.
Does anyone else feel like that?
