My parents are 57 years old (Dad born in April and Mom in July), I'm 32 (this Nov). They had me when they were 25. I had my kids at 27 (Dylan - Moderate HFA) and 29 (Brendon - Quirky NT).

I was gonna do a poll on this but never did. Can you add one to the tread? There has been research indicating that older women are more likely to give birth to autistic children, possibly due to elevated testosterone levels in the womb.

So the question really is how old was your mother when you were born?
I think mine was 28

Women are waiting longer to have children now, perhaps this could be one factor in the increase in autism.

anti,

I think a moderator could add a poll.

Where were the options you were thinking about?

< 20
20-24
25-30

or larger age brackets or what?

I was older when I had my children, ages 30 and 32. Niether are NT but then stuff runs in both families so...

My mother was 25 when she had me. I was 26 when I had my ADHD child and 28 when I had my AS child.

However, my father and grandmother have AS and their mothers where in late teens and early twenties when they were born.

Also, my best friends mother had her at 48 and she is as NT as you can get Smile

I think those are good age ranges.
Kanner noted that most of the parents of his autisics were well educated, and a lot of the women were career oriented. It could just be that people carrying the genes for ASD are also likely to postpone having children due to career goals.

I think a poll asking for the mother's age when they got pregnant is a good idea. If any of you mods can implement it that'd be great. Could it have these ages:

< 20
20-24
25-29
30-34
35 >

My mother was 37 when she had me, so quite old!

Every member can set up a poll if he wishes:

Push button "New Topic"
Scroll downwards (right scroll-bar of course)
1)Give text in field "Poll Question"
2)Give text in field "Poll Option"
3)Push button "Add option"

Repeat 2) and 3) untill you have had all options you want.

Make text of the message-body as usual.
Without any text it doesnŽt work.

Control everything with the "Preview button" (this you should always do to see how your message looks like). You have to scroll upward to see the result of the preview.

If everything is ok, you push the button "Submit"
If some options are wrong, youŽll have to start all over again, I think.
In that case, donŽt forget to copy the whole text of the message-body. Otherwise youŽll have to type this text all over again.

Needless to say, the poll options should cover all (not overlapping) possibilities adding up to 100 procent.

Both parents were 30 when they had me, 29 when I was "en route", no other offspring.

my parents are both 56, and I am 20. That would make them. . . .36 years of age when they had me.

My mother was a homemaker her entire life up until now, when she needed to return to the workforce.

Before I came around my parents where having fertillity problems.

I never thought of this this way.

I know that Kanner said this but in my family I am the first well educated career oriented woman and there are three known generations of autisics. My mom did work some of my life and may have fit the mold if given the chance but there is no way that my grandmother and greatgrandmother even came close to being well educated and neither of them ever had even one job in their lives.

It is all very interesting Wink
