Greetings all.

I've been posting here at WP for some time now and I thought I'd post this one here to let you all know that I derive much personal motivation in interracting with this on-line Aspie community. There are six or so other Aspie communities that I've been posting but WP truly is the apple of my Aspie eye.

I don't have a university in Psychology or anything, just a college education in something else. But I do come to WP seasoned with over four decades of living with that mysterious social oddballism, its real name and nature revealed with my formal Dx at 42. It marked a major milestone in my life that I could finally accept myself for what I am and my AS as part of what I'm all about.

Until that moment, I had navigated my life's journey without any recourses to speak of, and with an endless litany of befuddled -and sometimes mean-spirited teachers, hostile school mates, neighbors who tagged me with various unflattering labels, and employers and colleagues who could not or would not understand. And then I saw through a window into my own past with the school scenes at the beginning of the movie Forrest Gump.

The day of my Dx's revelation, there is a four-letter f-word that ceased to exist in my vocabulary: False Evidence Appearing Real (Take the first letter of each, you'll se what I mean). That day also marked my own emergence from a cocoon that had been my existence and my testing of my wings.

For those of you who are not aware, Papillon means butterfly in French. That handle is inspired by Henri Charrière's book and the movie of the same name. In many ways, my own life's journey echoes that French escape artist's life.

WP is my flower garden and its posters are the flowers I visit at their moments of blooming. Fellow Aspies, if that thread you started strikes any chord with me, I'll most certainly come along and put a bug in your ear Wink

This is my own example of leaving the past behind and letting bygones be bygones. You all have much to offer and I have much to share. I look forward to continued correspondences with you all.

I am

Papillon

Heart

I agree with what you wrote here. I too, was 42, when I found a name for my "weirdness". And yes, this place is great!

Thanks a lot for that wonderful and moving post. I don't know the movie but as a kid I read Papillon and loved it.

Please, keep on writing here. Some people like you have the gift to make others like me think in a positive way and feel much more better Smile

Your post was very nice, Papillion. I am greatful that I found a place to be and to talk with fellow aspies; most other online communities don't recieve posts as often as WP, and when they do recieve posts, they are months later. I really enjoyed how you talked about WP; you should post more often here because I enjoyed reading your post a lot! Very Happy

Nice post. Like the others here, it reflects my feelings about this place on the net.
