The ACLU is a planted movement. It is not a true grass roots movement, if it were it would be violently put down and silenced, and you would not have even heard of it. ACLU has a strong left wing bias on a number of issues, it's a tool. It's there to ground people mentally into what they THINK is real (and granted many of the followers believe their standing for their own ideas, but little do they know) and it's there to progress ideas that will eventually lead into other ideas that will eventually support their agenda. In other words theyr playing the masses. Public opinions and group opinions are largely controlled, even if the followers and protesters do not think they are..... The masses are easily manipulated because they thrive on their own ignorance most of the time, any empiracle truth that does not fit into their pre-set paradigm or world view they do not want to listen to.
Do I believe in ACLU? No. ACLU belongs in with other PC extremist left wing groups such as Amnesty International, Al Sharpton, and Femi-nazi groups. I do not believe they truely represent the people, they do not represent the **common** good but rather they represent a clique, and yes there is a common good IF people could try to put their egos aside long enough to come to the table and **compromise**. Instead of fighting ourselves, we need to stand together as one, against big corporations which are taking away our liberties.
This means this right/left sh** has to go. Every group, be they white, black, brown, yellow, red, male, female, straight, gay, bi, liberal, conservative, christian, jewish, atheist, budhist, muslims, etc, have to own up to their own criticism, take responsibility. Because everyone has added to the mess, reguardless of backgrounds.

Heya what a mess... ignore snake Smile

As far as I can tell, from my time here, ASpies are no more likely to side with the ACLU (or such principles) as are the general population.

Tripe.

The ACLU has helped represent Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell, anti-abortion protestors, street preachers, kids that want to use schools (after hours) for Bible studies, and a host of other groups that are far from Snake's idea of the PC mafia. The ACLU is interested in civil liberties, regardless of who is getting trampled or how popular they are. The ACLU opposed the McCain-Feingold act, noting that it will limit speech of groups as diverse as the Sierra Club and the National Rifle Association.

The ACLU has taken cases to fight for worker's rights and privacy rights - which makes them unpopular with some big corporations.

Amnesty International? They adopt individual political prisoners around the world and try to focus attention on their plight and pressure the governments to ease up - they have gone beyond 'left/right' but snake has not.

Ok, let's tell you the official line of Amnesty International and that we (yes, we, I am a resolute member) are not a PC left-wing organization, however i do hmm hmmm have my disagreements concerning certain policy matters, when I am student area coordinator for New Jersey, well don't tell this to the higher-ups, things might change.

Anyway, we support POcs of any nationality, or religion, or whatever else you can name, as long as they advocate peacefully for their beliefs.

If you actually take the time to look up AI on the web, you will find that we are an apolitical organization( I am personally a very liberal person) which has absolutely nothing to do with my activism (well with AI anyway)

Snake, I think the only extremist here, is you, in this case a very extreme reactionary.

I was a member of the ACLU during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.
I was an officer in a local ACLU chapter in the late 60s and early 70s. I still believe in most of what they do. Some of their gyrations to separate church and state seem slightly silly. My real problem came when I decided that not everything constitutional is right and not everything unconstitutional is wrong and I was unwilling to lend my support to things of which I personally disapproved more than I approved of constitutional rights. The rights of a specific human being in a specific situation cannot always be best served by the application of some principle.

If they break the law, they should be arrested and prosecuted. But to the degree that they only propose changing the law, that is protected speech.

I have a neurological condition (other than AS) that might be treated with a chemical that is currently not legal to use as a medicine. Should the government be arresting all doctors that say 'hey, there is evidence that this chemical might help people with that condition"?? Or only the doctors that might actually be breaking the law?

Should we have 'thought-crimes' and lock people up for thinking or saying things we don't like??

Exactly. I don't like what those sickos say but I'll defend their right to say it. Speech is either entirely free or not free at all. Censorship is like a creeping slime that contaminates everything, ultimately crushing Liberal Democracy under a demagogic (like conservative soccer moms trying to ban Harry Potter books) or elitist censorship.
