Since according to other members of this site. Autism speaks are looking for a cure for autism. Cure: Making us all clones, and contributing to the norm.

Would you be on strike if AuSP was at your local buildings, schools, libraries, malls?

I'm nether support nor am I against the 'cure' I don't want to make a biased opinion on something I know nothing about.

As in 'cure': Are they trying to make us robots? Make us the 'same'? Geez reminds me of high school cliques.

I don't know if I want to be cured. I haven't any deep understanding of my disability yet. And everybody else refuses to be cured, and they think that their disability is actually a gift.

Thought?

My attitude towards autism is pretty positive, I like me as I am.

If Autism Speaks made an appearance somewhere local, I don't know that I'd protest (would I be alone?). However, I would prepare myself vigrously for a debate so that I could somewhat undue their influence and save my friends some money.

I need to get some Positive Autism shirts, because I am not confident/outgoing enough to outright protest, but I will wear a t-shirt for sure.

I'm happy with myself, the way that I am. I don't need to be cured.

All these people (parents, organistions) looking for a cure really annoy me!
Aspergers/autism/PDD are NOT diseases therefore can't be cured. The only real cure I can see for it is a brain transplant.
Sure look for what may cause it so that more effective treatments can be discovered but stop them going on a bout a cure.
For the record Autism Speaks tick me off!
Ok vent over Smile

You should ask them why the site only addresses parents of autistic people, and never directly addresses autistics themselves.

I didn't get it until someone pointed it out but AS advocates invitero intervention as the cure... AS IN ABORTION.

in other words, if you test positive for autism, as we know all aspies would, abortion would be the recommended cure.

They don't want to "cure" us, they want to eradicate us.

That's not what makes you feel weak, Jimmy. Other people are the reason, and the sooner you stand up to them the better. You won't feel weak then! Smile

Speaking for myself - as unlikely as it is given there is no Autism Speaks in Australia - I would certainly lead a protest along the lines of "You don't speak for me!" And give them an earful about the positives of being on the Spectrum.

Autism Speaks has never advocated the abortion of autistic fetuses. Stating that is totally unfair to them.

You may believe that to be their state of mind if you wish, but there is no evidence that supports that assertion.

If you think there is something to the contrary on the internet, post a link to it.

I agree with you! I would totally protest and flip out if they came to our school!

This site has some t-shirts: http://www.cafepress.com/buy/aspergers/-/go_1/pg_5

If Autism Speaks came to my sons' school I would protest for sure!

I would hang a banner saying 'Acceptance, Support and Understanding NOT cure'.

Yes, this is what I would ask them.
