Is this "World Autism Awareness Day" inextricably linked to Autism Speaks, or is it just a general celebration of autistic gifts? Or...not??? I am wondering if any of my fellow WP members (whose thoughts and opinions I value greatly) are doing anything special for this on April 2nd. Please advise.

From what I can see from a quick search it's run by the U.N., but Autism Speaks heavily supports it.

Autism Speaks can go to hell, for all I care.

Well, I don't really care what, if anything, Autism Speaks is doing. But I like the nam3 of it. "World Autism Awareness Day." I like seeing it on my calendar, and knowing that I don't have to go to the party if I don't want to, for a change. I just want to say it like "Merry Christmas!"
"Happy World Autism Awareness Day!"

I'm not optimistic about Autism Awareness Day- probably it will just be used as an excuse for more alarmism and a nice fundraising opportunity for Autism Speaks.

This will be the first-ever World Autism Awareness Day, however, Autism Awareness Month (which this is simply a bigger part of) has existed since the early 1990's, long before Autism Speaks existed.

We Aut to be aware Day topic

I would like to see an Autistic Pride awareness as the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Community does. I would imagine this has already been discussed at some point. Wear you Wrong Planet T-shirt.

You have more gumption than I do. I am not going to let my family, friends or Union brothers & sisters know about my AS even after the shrink confirms/denies my own assessment. I guess it's a generational thing. I hope your presentation goes well. Smile

Click the link above the "WrongPlanet.net" logo at the top of the page, where it says "Shop," if you are so inclined.
