I'm having a dilemma. I was diagnosed with AS, I don't remember when, maybe ten years ago. And I turned out to be like normal children, I can speak like the NT, well except that my speech is slightly more eloquent. I have my quirks, just never relized that my behavior was *quirky* back then. As years passed symptoms started to become worse. When I was around 14, I started to lose touch with my speech, I tend to lose the words and never finish my sentences. I'm very often misquoted. I don't know why i stutter. I became mre clumsy. Now three weeks ago, I'm having problems with my eyesight. In classrooms fluorescent lighing became too bright. Classroom chatter tends to get too loud, and at the end of the day, I shut down. It feels like a computer crash. Something is making me slow, and I talk like a drunk. Communication became even more difficult.

I looked this up and it was something called regression. I'm going to look this further.

Is it possible autism symptoms get worse as you get older? Even in your teens?

It happens to approximately a third of autistic people in their teens, and half of the people it happens to get the abilities back eventually.

I don't know that my Aspie traits have increased as I've aged-- I do know that I'm more Aspie-ish if I'm stressed.

You may want to check into other neurological issues. I don't know about the regression business, but my AS set me up for lots of physical (including head) injuries over the years. It complicates things, but it is something that can be dealt with.

Also, consider that hormonal changes can trigger neurological changes. My own hormone changes in my 40s have made my symptoms and issues more pronounced.

It's all very... interesting.

Usually, the external environment is what makes people with AS worst, i.e., adolescence and its associated differences in social interaction, and the schooling environment.

It's more of an autistic disorder thing rather than an Asperger's thing when people "regress" to full-blown autism in early adulthood after improvements in childhood.
