College started on Wednesday morning so I moved in my studentroom on Tuesday afternoon. I should be there today, but the fact is that those first three days were useless : it was only to be told what we already know about how college is different from high school and you have to work to succeed, and also choose your options. I have prepared an article for my blog about it so that this message will not be too long.
Has everyone else been homeschooled in high school and been to a real college then ?

I have been homeschooled for the last 5-6 years, and have just finished my first week of college at the University of Montana's College of Technology in the USA. My major - or mention - is Computer Technology, with an option in Information Systems Management, for a two-year degree.

The things that are different about college from homeschooling for me are:

Good:
1) Have some great professors who are very knowledgable and friendly.
2) I get to talk to other students about computers, which is a big interest for me, and so I love to talk about it.
3) I get to make new friends, and then see them almost every day.
4) I get to improve existing skills and learn new ones.

Bad:
1) I have to follow somebody elses schedule again - used to be I had a lot more time to browse WrongPlanet.net and other internet sites, but now have to focus more on studying again.
2) Homework - lots of homework, which I haven't had to do while homeschooling.
3) I have to follow somebody else's pace - not learn at my own pace.
4) The first class for me on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is Computing Fundamentals - a little higher than 'Computers 101' and so I know how to do almost everything in that class....including web page development. The only problem was that I didn't use Microsoft Front Page to do any of my web development during my homeschooling years, and so could not complete that part of the challenge test to get out of that class.

In general, I am glad I homeschooled, and if college were not so fun, I might try to do it all online so I could still work from home. I like it better so far though.

Let me know how college goes for you.
