Do you feel like Jesus loves you?

I was once given a pamphlet that showed Jesus Christ knocking on a door to our heart. We're told to welcome him into us like an acquaintence into our living room.

But in the past year almost all I've been able to think about how badly he would tease me.

I can hear it now.

"Look, he's Scott Hoagie Sandwich!"

"ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂHÂHÂHÂHÂHÂHÂHÂ!"

"You're Hoagie, Scott!"

"STUPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID!"

And he would make a huge deal out of every mistake I made, rubbing it in that I'm not perfect like the Lord our God. Like his own little dog that he and everyone else could kick whenever they wanted.

For some reason, I can't help but imagine him mention "stupid people."

In stanzas 3, 8, and 12 of my poem (http://www.geocities.com/zinites_page/poetry.html) I references his Parables. There's a spooky one about good fish and bad fish near the beginning of the Gospels.

The question is, why do I feel this way? In my mind he's not always mean; sometimes he can be really nice.

If this continues, I may just give up Christianity as a moral maxim.

For one dreadful moment I thought you meant Christianity, then was relieved to realise you meant something quite different

Isn't he supposed to love us all! Its not something that he gives out to people
he deems worthy, after all didn't he die for all our sins regardless of faith.

I was once walking down an empty street and all of a sudden an old lady opened her door and walked up to me and said "Do you know Jesus?" I was shocked and so I said "No thanks!" and ran in the opposite direction.

Portayal of Jesus as a name-calling bully? WTF?

Read the Gospels, whoever thinks Jesus will call you names and bully you. Ask a pastor or priest about it.

I've never heard of self-hatred being able to do this. It's like deep down, being persecuted and spat on is what these people get off on. Despite all appearances, some people will engineer situations which they can be victimized. It's almost what you'd call a fetish.

The poster of that comment is not sick, and has a warm and wonderful sense of humor.

The people who are most effective in introducing religious beliefs to others are able to withhold judgment and listen to others with humor and grace. Let me ask you, would the Jesus you believe in be so judgmental?

The Lord Jesus Christ will judge everyone at Armageddon. Since the thread was about Jesus to begin with, how could I have introduced religion into it?

In any case, I do not share the poet's sense of humour. Nor will I defend it. I find it rather offensive.

All human judgements will be judged when the time comes, including mine. I expect as much, to be judged alongside my fellow human beings with no preference shown. I expect to held accountable for my sins and my virtues.

Try reading the post again. I was referring to people who are actually interested in educating people about religion, perhaps with the hope of bringing them into the fold, as it were. You missed the point entirely - I meant that you could take a lesson from people like that!

To effectively bring others around to one's own beliefs, one must withhold judgment and greet people with an open mind and a sense of humor. You could make your points better if you did the same.

Truly spiritual people do not judge and condemn people they do not even know.

Quite right. I don't judge anyone who knocks on my door until they thrust a Watchtower magazine in my hand and say the magic words "Jehovah's Witness" then I judge it's time to close the door.

I find the most spiritually enlightened people to be those who have opened their hearts, ears and mind and explored for themselves and not just swallowed an indigestible religious book whole (of whatever religion). I may come across a little blasphemous to some people, but I've spent most of my life exploring religion, spirituality and science (I see no division between science and spirituality).

I have no objection to people expressing whatever religious beliefs they like provided they do not try to either ram them down the throats of others or to use them as a basis for aggression or repression of others as seems to be frequently the case, particularly in Islamic countries, thought the same seems to exist to a certain extent in the West particularly the States.
