How do you pronounce your name phonologically? Use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to transcribe the pronunciation, please.

Mine is pronounced /ne ̃ɑ ty ˈm̃ɛ/.

For Unicode character mappings for the IPA symbols, see IPA transcription in Unicode.

You just spelled your name using NATO call letters. You didn't show a phonetic or phonological pronunciation.

Say "philosophy". Now remove "philo" and "y". Then add "ist" like in "getting the gist of something" to the end of "soph".

Now, what's that sound???

SOPHIST! !!

Or just say "so" and "fist" and put 'em together.

It's "fah" like the Sound of Music - fa, a long long way to run.

"reeq" sounds like "reek." For example, the trash reeks if you don't take it out for several days.

Let's put it together....fa-REEK

Why aren't any of you transcribing the pronunciation in IPA?

  • TheBladeRoden = /ðə ˈbleɪd roʊ dn̩/
  • fahreeq = /fɑ ˈrik/
  • Sophist = /ˈsoʊ fɪst/

Because I suspect most of us don't have a clue what it is, but only want to get the gist across.

My name could be pronounced Derghaugwzlymwhan, but those of you who find that difficult (like I do) can pretend it's English instead (like I do...)

I was hoping many of you would be enthused to learn a system that enables utterances spoken in any human language to be transcribed accurately and reproduceably.

I didn't have a clue, either. The sound descriptors didn't make any sense to me on the website.
