it also varies with the menstrual cycle - i'm more sensitive to pain just before bleeding, and far less so just after.

this makes sense to me: in the stoneage men had to hunt and had more injuries to suffer. it was better to feel less pain. for women this was more important i guess, to keep themselfes healthy.
-only a short hypothesis Very Happy -

That is really odd. I have read that on average women have a much higher threshold for pain than men do. So women feel more pain than men can, as well as handle more pain than men can? Confused

The article only mentions the amount of pain receptors on the facial skin. Nothing about other places. The rest of the research merely mentions that they report more pain through their lifetime. There are many possible reasons for why that is the case, not necessarily that they, on average, experience more pain (childbirth etc excepting.)

Well that's obviously to make sure they feel it when you smack em in the head for trying to do something stupid like driving, voting, or leaving the kitchen.

Disclaimer: For those of you who may be inclined to take things seriously, this is (as with pretty much everything I say) a joke. I have nothing but the greatest respect for women (after all, my mother is one!) and only make terrible sexist jokes because I know that women can give as good as they get, and because it amuses me to do so. Just because I joke about hitting women does not mean I condone this sort of activity, because I most certainly do not. I also joke about running over puppies and eating babies, but you don't see me doing either of those, do you? If you are offended by this joke, then please accept my apologies and reach for a box of tissues. If you are not offended by this joke, then please accept my apologies and I'll try and include some aborted foetuses or something in the next one to make extra doubly sure you are offended. Any blacks, whites, jews, asians, indians, aboriginals, miscellaneous, or kiwis, who may be reading this- do not worry, I fully intend to insult and degrade you all over the course of time, please wait patiently for your turn.

That reminds me. What do you say to a woman with two black eyes? "You should have listened to me the first time"

in very poor taste, eamonn, as it's practically advocating domestic violence, which i'm sure you wouldn't want to.

and sanity - ditto, and the disclaimer doesn't suffice.

The point of the joke is because of how absurd it is. I dont see how anyone with an ounce of sense can genuinely see that as a green light to actually do it. If someone believes it is and acts on it then it is only a matter of time before they watch "Commando" and try to take a foreign army or "terrorist" organisation on single handedly or watch "Silence of the Lambs" and become serial killing cannibals.

absolutely agree. however, there are a lot of people out there who haven't got an ounce of sense, i'm afraid. and you never know who's looking at this site.

as i said, I know you wouldn't advocate it. other people might not realise, though.

Oh Vivi, you're only saying that because you're a woman! Very Happy

Imagine I was a humpback whale, and the earth was a giant pumpkin. People wouldn't be offended then, would they? See, it all makes sense when you put things into perspective!

you mean you're not a humpbacked whale, and the earth isn't a giant pumpkin?

you might have broken it to me gently... Crying or Very sad

but no, it's not cos i'm a woman, it's cos i have to work with victims of domestic violence, male and female, and it's no joke, believe me.

You could be right. Common sense is becoming less common these days so maybe i should descriminate more in who i share twisted humour with.
