Itīs terrible, Iīm completely unable to sit down and study propertly.. I always get distracted with something, mostly I get distracted by whatever are my obsessions at the moment ....this of course itīs starting to have itīs repercusion in college, my professors donīt understand it ,they think that Iīm lazy.
What could be the reason for this?? does this happen to you?? ...what can I do!? _________________ "You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." - Nietzsche |

I've found this is potentially one of the most crippling side-effects of having a Gift. Since you can't study your obsessions, your performance will be...less than stellar because the other stuff just doesn't interest you.
Honestly...if you can't study your obsessions then college is gonna suck, and suck hard.
Look on other web sites and see what classes you need to actually study your obsessions in the future is an idea.

I have the exact same problem... I still pass all my classes though, so I must be doing something right. I just leave everything till the last possible minute and don't study much. I find it impossible to concentrate for long on anything school related.
If your profs think you are lazy, then screw them. You will find a way to do what you need to do to succeed in what you are supposed to do. It will just happen, don't get bent out of shape over grades or not studying properly, as long as you are passing then don't be too hard on yourself... university is still made for average people, not AS people. |

Don't be overzealous and take a ton of classes. Lighten up your load and take time for your obsessions. Reward your hard work in class with some obsession time. Hopefully you have picked a major where you can use your obsession to your advantage and the upper division courses will be cake. Taking 5 yrs to obtain a 4 yr degree is actually very common. Getting the core classes out of the way was the hardest part of my Chemistry and Biochemistry degrees.
Also, when it gets too much, don't feel bad about just shutting down for a short time. I also found that being around semi-distractions (the main area of the residence hall, outside by a populated area, listening to music, etc.) helped me focus.
Psychologists say that the following should become habit: 5 min break every 15 min study, 15 - 30 min break every hour, 1+hr break every 4 - 6 hrs. Before I became adapt at this timing I would study for about 2 hrs in one block and be shot for the rest of the day. Less if I didn't care about the subject matter.
Also, try to relate the subject to your obsession. Even if it is only so you can better communicate you obsession or be more colorful about how you present you obsession. You never know where a great correlation that no one has come up with will pop up.
