Hi, my name's Tyler and I'm thirteen years old.
I'm not 100% sure, but after researching on dozens of websites,
I'm pretty confident I'm an aspie.
I've actually been wondering what people like me are called for
awhile, but I only recently found out what Asperger's Syndrome is.
Generally, I'm good at acting like I'm half normal, but no matter where I am, or what I'm doing,
I always feel out of place. I don't have as much trouble making eye contact with people, as I do waiting in line at
a super market, trying to figure out where I should be looking, or how I should be standing, or what my facial expression should be. None of it comes naturally to me.
I also have the habit of "spacing out", becoming lost in thought daydreaming about things.
I've never had very much trouble with school work, no magical mathematic abilities or photographic memory unfortunately,
but I'm an A+ student.
I like drawing, but it always bugs me when I'm told to draw a certain way in an Art Lesson.(I'm home schooled by the way)
I prefer intracite, but symmetrical drawings.
Drawing people or self portraits is an utter nightmare for me, but I can draw very respectable looking buildings and patterns.
I joined a home school program called CAVA(California Virtual Academy) at the beginning of 5th grade.( I'm starting 8th grade)
I couldn't stand social interactions in public school, I didn't see the point in recess,
I just wanted to finish my school work and go home.
I've become a lot better at socializing by talking to people on line though, even making a couple of friends.
I'm also really good with computers, and gizmo's.
I've always been really into video games, apparently my first instance of playing one was when I was about 4 years old.
I played a racing game on the Play Station called Crash Team Racing, and I used play against my brother when he was about 14.
I took an aspie quiz, which I found while I was lurking around this forum. It gave this result:
~~~~~
Your Aspie score: 121 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 76 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
Aspie talent 6.9 Above average
Neurotypical talent 2.5 Below average
Aspie compulsion 3.5 Average
Neurotypical compulsion 1.3 Below average
Aspie activity pattern 5.5 Average
Neurotypical social 3.3 Average
Aspie communication 6.4 Average
Neurotypical communication 5.6 Average
Aspie hunting 3.9 Average
Neurotypical hunting 5.0 Average
Aspie perception 4.0 Average
Neurotypical perception 4.2 Average
~~~~~
Just curious, but what is "Aspie Talent"?
Well, sorry for this message being so long.
It's very comforting to have somewhere to vent out though. _________________ "Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death."~James F. Bymes |

Welcome to WP.
I also find it much easier to talk online than in person, unless I'm very comfortable with the person. Not that that applies to many people.... _________________ "If you can't explain something to a six-year-old, you really don't understand it yourself." -Einstein

Thanks for the greetings, and the delicious yet sinister looking Wumpa Fruit cake!
Yeah, I definitely get nervous talking to new people in person.
The less i know about them, the more I try to rehearse what I'm going to say in my head.
Klaatu barada nikto?
Gort wasn't the only one, eh?

Welcome Tyler,
Glad to see you took the aspie quiz. It seems to be quite accurate.
Interesting about the home schooling but I can quite understand how you don't enjoy recess etc.. It will be interesting to see how you get on when you leave school and go for a job. There's a lot of social interactions in the workplace.
Anyway.... welcome to WP. _________________ Gavin.

Heh, well I'm not too worried.
I'm a lot more functional nowadays then I was in the fifth grade anyways.
I'm thinking about dropping my home school program in time for high school.
I figure I might as well give it a try.
It's not like I prefer not having nearby friends after all,
and if I make enemies, it just means I've stood up for something in my life.
I'm not sure how things are going to turn out with work, but I don't even know what I want to do for a living yet.
I'm getting an electric guitar next week, it'll be my first instrument.
Maybe I'll become some kind of eccentric musician! lol _________________ "Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death."~James F. Bymes |
