If Bush were to force the USA into another war* to either pass to the next president or to remain in office, what would you do? Would you riot? Would you head immediately to Washington DC to personally voice your anger? Would you cheer for more killings, torture, and rape?

This isn't a poll...just gaguing how people would respond to such actions.

*Not necessarily Iran...there's a few other choice targets still open as well.

Nothing, sadly. I've got a wife and two kids, and we're struggling to get by in this shithole economy. I don't have the time or money to spend on trying to let the government know how I feel.

Not that I don't feel strongly about it all. If it were up to me, I'd put this administration to the gun for Iraq alone.

Yeah....that's what concerns me...that the vast majority of Americans wouldn't do anything. Including the college kids. Hell, if Obama gets into office, they'll probably be all clamoring for war if Obama says it's okay.

I'd hide somewhere rural outside the bombing radii and away from the state's control. I'd try to convince some friends and family to take refuge with me. We could be safe in the wilderness, until they start drilling or developing nearby. And finding someplace remote enough would be difficult to begin with.

Under martial law, I don't think organized protesting would work. Everyone would need to be working underground, out of the government's sight, and we'd have to remain a step ahead of the state so they don't catch us. We'd probably need some devoted guerrilla fighters (WOLVERINES!) to handle those working for the state. Also, since today's government/military is so dependent on technology, it would be useful to find a means of eliminating that threat. But even an underground movement would require a lot of cooperation to overthrow a military dictatorship. And even if we managed a successful power shift, is that going to stop the rest of the world from being majorly pissed at us?

I'd hope that in such an event the people would prevent this from ever happening again by reorganizing without a centralized government. We do not need one person as judge, jury, and executioner, to decide who in the world lives or dies.

Continue my education.

Failing that, continue my education in another country.

In either event, I'm really not worried about this possibility. If Bush were to attempt to do such a thing, the Dems would force a referendum, and the whole affair would go down as a minor historical embarrassment. Our politics may not be at their best right now, but at least we can say we've got a real government, in spite of some of its faults. This kind of nonsense would be thrown under the bus pretty quickly.

because they've done so much so far to limit the actions of the executive branch so far.

they've done such a great job of keeping bush in line and pursuing fixing the mistake of iraq and holding people accountable for such failures and the failures that allowed torture and violent sexual molestation to be government sanctioned.

he says a lot of weird things. i'm not sure if he's a troll, if he just doesn't "get it" or if he's really that sexist and racist.

i don't think he's hurting anyone, though.

back on topic. I'm afraid the American public will do absolutely nothing. well nothing constructive anyways. It will be just like the Iraqi War. We will b***h and moan and crack jokes about bush's IQ and sit on our butts praying that everything will go away in 4 to 8 years. I don't know why we are like this now but it scares the hell out of me.

Bush has already pushed the system about as far as it will go. There is already a pretty massive pushback from the voters, the supreme court has ruled against the administration over guantanamo 4 times, and the democrats are idly tossing around fantasies of impeachment.

Oh, and the rest of the world pretty much hates and distrusts us even more than usual.

He is openly and visibly an albatross, not just in the presidential race, but in the congressional ones as well.

Anything along the lines that you suggest simply would not happen, and if he tried, he'd be done.

Any attempt to extend a ruler's time in office beyond the legal term should be responded to with assassination. Any attempt to start violent conflicts should meet with indictment and trial for war crimes.

Now that I'm done with generalities, to the specifics: Bush will leave office peacefully at the appointed day and leave the next President (most likely Obama) messes in Iraq and in the domestic economy to clean up.
