Anybody see this?
I thought it was quite cool visually but the message behind it was kind of f***ed up.
I tend not to like movies that try to insult me as boring on the basis that I don't go around killing people.

Please have a MAJOR FREAKING SPOILER WARNING or delete the last line of your post!
I haven't seen the film but I do intend to. I was surprised by all the good reviews it was getting (wasn't it 85% at Rotten Tomatoes?), especially given that all of them basically acknolwedged that its story was basically nonexistant. I loved the "NightWatch" films and this had the same director. Plus--I admit it--I like the occasional brainless pretty action movie, if it's well done and has tons and tons of awesome special effects. |

I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to. I could relate to the main character, Wesley, more than... oh, I'd say about 90% of other action movie heroes. I actually liked and cared about him, which is rather unusual for me these days with most movie characters (which made it even harder to watch how he got put through hell through most of the movie, but I suppose art is supposed to make you feel). The fact that they didn't go the usual route and make him a completely normal, well-adjusted guy at the end made it effective too.
I was also happy in a way that they didn't go the cheap route and sacrifice Fox's integrity as a character by having her miraculously give up the code after learning the truth, just to save the romance. It was rather gutsy of them to do so, even if it did make it even sadder.
Finally, those scenes where he got to tell off the girlfriend, the "friend" and the boss were just glorious. That alone would've made the movie worth seeing in my opinion. |

I went to see it in my boyfriend (not my type of film, and probably the first 18 I've seen in the cinema), and as a film student, I had to admire the composition. It was both filmed and put together really well, and technically it was a brilliant film.
However, storyline and adaptation I'm not entirely happy about. I haven't actually read the comic (except for a few snippets over Nick's shoulder), but from what Nick told me they could have stuck to the plot better than they did. I understand the need to have a sympathetic main character, but I think that to achieve that they only needed to change half of what they did. The plot that they used wasn't particually well thought out, or properly shown in the film.
But, meh, I guess not everyone goes to watch an 18 for the plot. _________________ I would be the laziest girl in the world, but it's too much effort. |

Well, I saw it. I was disappointed...it was okay, but I was expecting the action to be crazier and cooler.
The fact is, a film directed by the guy who did Night Watch and Day Watch, with THAT cast, with Danny Elfman doing the score, based on a widely acclaimed graphic novel...should have turned out a LOT better than that. |
