| I liked it even though a few of the characters were too over the top. I think Josh Harnett did a pretty good job in it though. |

I agree that Josh Hartnett did a great job, and the movie and character portrayals were well-done, but the tone of the movie was too depressing for me to enjoy it. _________________ Jesus was an anarchist. |

Voted that it was "okay"-compared with movies in general.
As a movie about people with ASD, it was better than most.
The actors happen to be ones that I just don't enjoy watching/hearing.
The book was much better-I read it after having seen the film. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |

| I think it did a pretty fair job portraying AS. However, I think somebody got ahold of it and twisted it into a chick flick. The record breaking scene seemed to be an exact thing that I did when I was little. |

Really liked it, and it made me understand myself a lot more (watched it when I was only suspicious about AS). Need to find it somewhere to buy so the mother can watch it. _________________ We are the mutant race!!!! Don't look at my eyes, don't look at my face... |

| No, the idea of an "aspie" love story kinda ruins it for me. Now, an "aspie" horror story with Cthulhu undertones, I'll watch that. |

The movie takes a lot of liberties from the book
i.e. They weren't middle-aged, Jerry Newport (Donald Duck) didn't habitually rear-end people in his taxi, nor did it seem like he was so unconditionally distractable by numbers, and the span of time from the point they meet in their lives to when they're "okay" is from 1993 to 2003, not about a year or so.
I feel like they tried really hard to make the aspie characteristics totally unmistakable and angsty, while underplaying most of the legitimately adult internal issues between them present in the book, to make for a more concisely understood idea that the movie was trying to convey. It's like they focussed on only clearcut things that must make it difficult for aspies, but didn't go into any great depth or breadth about it. So much for a story about being understood.
Not terrible, not great, they tried, just kind of superficially approachable, I guess. You do what you can with the movie format. Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, it's still ok for it's feel-good moments. |

I felt that I could relate to both.
The male in the movie.
-License plate number fascination
-Feeling panicked when other people move around your stuff so nothing is in your order
The female in the movie.
-Into artsy hobbies
-Cleaning
I clean up alot but I have to be the one who does it especially when it involves putting stuff away or I will get agitated when I can't find it. I also end up forgetting where I put stuff anyway but it's easier for me to know where the forgotten items are because if I put it away then I know it could be in predicatable spots.
There's this item that is really minor. Really insignificant. I couldn't find it for weeks. Everyday I went around my place looking for it. I found it a couple of times while I was distracted and then forgot where it was.
Minor silly things. |

Depressing, convoluted, but vaguely entertaining.
like any other romance movie. |

It has been a while since I rented it from my neighborhood library,
so I cannot give an actual opinion.
You have to give the movie some credit for at least trying.
Josh Hartnett and Radha Mitchell did a great job,
although for some reason, Radha Mitchell vaguely reminds
me of my former high school pathologist.
I also feel sorry for Jerry & Mary Newport,
since this movie was based on their story.
The book is better than the movie though.
Fact: In 1996, Dreamworks was set to distribute the movie
with Steven Spielberg directing and Robin Williams to portray Jerry.
It's in the book. _________________ Only you can prevent NT jerkiness! |

Yeah, that's kinda' like my opinion, as stated in earlier post on this thread (though using different words).

A great movie, in my honest opinion. I've never identified more with a fictional character than I did with Donald Morton. _________________ WP doesn't have a working first amendment.
