I just run across a website that seems to offer a less expensive solution than Auditory Integration Training. This website explains the theory behind their method as well as providing free samples.

http://www.vision-audio.com/

Has anyone here tried this method, and if so, does it work?

I use earplugs, 2 for 50cents for the foam ones, and $1.50 US for the 'rubber' ones

What she said. Smile

I'm sorry. I know that's not very helpful.

i hate the noise of
my father's incessant
talking especially in
the mornings when
i'm still asleep and
he is doing something
in the kitchen which is
directly below my bed
room.
and when he talks
he makes this hissing sound
from a far you can hear this
even if he's barely audible
i get so irritated that i leave
the tv on loudly, just to mask
his voice...

I have been thinking of getting ear plugs to sleep with as I am going to university soon.
However I am worried that they will be too effective and let me sleep through my alarm clock.
Am I worrying over nothing? Is there a type of ear plug that can help cut out surrounding noise but let my alarm wake me? Is there a different type of alarm I could get instead?

@kclark: Try setting up a lamp over your head and putting it on a timer. I guarantee that you will be so wide awake that you won't need coffee!

I use a lamp from Ikea that just screws into the wall and it's just on a standard timer - the kind you use to turn lights on and off when you go on vacation. Nice, inexpensive, and totally effective.

Great idea Squidy.
Sinsboldly, I tried using my cell phone on vibrate to wake me a few times, but it was kind of hit and miss. Although I am sure the bed shaker vibrates a lot more.
Gotta add these to my shopping list.
