I often have problems working in groups because:
A) THe people who are my partners are generally people who I call "slackers," for lack of a better word
B) The people who are in my group tend to ignore me
C) I just plain work better alone
Does anyone have any tips on how to work with a group? |

I have similar problems, cos people just start working together then when I try to make a suggestion they tell me to shut up, so I usually make ANOTHER suggestion that's too rude to repeat. I HATE groupwork. _________________ Are you a teenager with Asperger's? http://www.teenagerswithaspergers.com <-- my friend's website. |

I loathe group-work! It is the bane of my existence.
I usually carry the load for whatever project is assigned. Otherwise I go to the prof, explain that I have AS, and don't do well in groups. There is simply not enough reasons that anyone should have to do group work. Frankly, I dont' want my grades dependent upon anyone else! |

| I simply don't work well with others. Usually I'm considered the slacker. Whenever I work in a group, I always feel pressured to work faster and harder. I like doing work on my own, at my own pace. Not to mention I hate the people at my school. |

1. State the goal(s) of the group in a single, clear, and concise sentence; your "Mission Statement." --> Mission Statement Generator <-- "Our efforts involve upgrading the highest quality management leadership with expansion through personal goals at all levels."
2. State the methodology of your group; again in a single, clear, and concise sentence.
3. Lay out your plan of action, including work assignments, sub-goals, and timetables. Also state the minimum requirements for success.
4. Keep a journal of all your actions, suggestions, and accomplishments. Keep receipts, too (who ordered the pizza, and who paid how much?). Document everything.
5. When the slackers slack (and you know they will), fire off an email to your instructor or supervisor. Detail the situation in an unemotional manner. Describe how it inhibits attaining the group's goal(s). Ask for advice. Keep copies of all such memoranda.
6. Do your own write-ups, as if you were the only one working on the project, and make sure that you hand yours in separately. Withold nothing from your co-workers, but make sure that none of it can be appropriated by them, either. Keep your name at the top of all your work.
7. File daily progress reports, regardless of the performance of your co-workers, giving a short description of what has been done by whom on the project in the last 24 hours, what is being done by whom now, and what has yet to be done by whom (Keep a copy for your journal).

Group work always ruins everything for me.
I do everything great by myself and I prefer it that way but in groups I'm so bad... I can't talk to people at all and just want independent work. In guitar, my favorite class, we're supposed to "get with a partner" so we can trade off playing solo and rhythm and I always feel so left out whenever we're supposed to "pick" partners. I'm never picked and I always feel so weird and it just rubs in my differences. Everyone just ignores me and avoids me like the plague so I feel weird and I'm not doing anything while they're doing everything wrong and being stupid about it. I hate it. The people at my school are all annoying cliquey pricks too. Group work always makes my grades drop. |

When im in a group, i get ingnored, told to shut up, told to, this is true, actually leave the classroom by the "friends" i must work with. I didnt leave the room, and subsequently, lost a friend. I f**** hate how people roll in schools. Especially in groups. _________________ "He Who Asks Is A Fool For 5 Minutes, But He Who Does Not Ask Is A Fool Forever" "live well. its the greatest revenge". my sig is random quotes! |

| I hate group work too, now even more than last year, because people now know that i am smart, and work fast, so they want me in their group. and when i accept, they let me do everything, and when i complain about it , the teachers always say i shouldn't be so winy about it. |

I hate groupwork just simply because everybody ignores my suggestions and I often don't get a lot of things done in groupwork, making my group "somewhat" left behind. _________________ Visit my website at:

group work bites and is the bane of my existance. my school is so full of slackers that it isn't even funny and I always get paired up with them.
suggestions on the evil thing? (aka group work)
1. tell the slakers in the group to pull their own weight.
2. do your own work. if you do anyone else's work they might decide to dump the rest of it on you
3. if the others don't do their part, don't let your grade suffer for it. tell your prof. or teacher
4 if you work better alone, ask the others in your group if you can each do your own part separately, then put it all together later. <--that saved me in my english class more times than i can count
5. don't keep to yourself. if you need someone else's help, ask. if you think they need help, offer. and if the pieces of the project are related and you are working separately, try working together for a little while.
6. if you are allowed to, pick your partners, just be smart about it. if you can't pick, hope you get people you get along with |

My latest group work assignment involved having to deal with three immigrant girls, of which one also happened to be a racist. I wasn't very helpful, to say the least. _________________ "Purity is for drinking water, not people" - Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
