Never heard of one, and from what I can tell most psychs in Ohio are pretty ignorant about ASDs. There's a few Ohioans on this board, though. There's me, then Rainsong, techstepgenr8tion (I think) and a couple others.

I'm in Columbus, OH. Ohio State's Nisonger Center runs a support group for young adults on the spectrum: http://aspirationsohio.org/

The web site says people aged 17-30, but I think there are people older than this involved.

Here's a group in Dayton.

http://darngroup.tripod.com/

To my knowledge, they have become a lot more neurodiversity-friendly than their web site suggests. Currently their support group is the only one that's meeting, and as a result consists about half of parents and half of Spectrum people. Their meetings can be guest speakers or discussion groups and attendance is generally 10-30 people.

I already have a list like that, but your list appears to have more on it. So I will have to check it out. Thank you.

I contacted my local asd chapter and they told me about aspirations. I've thought about it, but they only meet eight times and it cost $250. It seems more like a teaching kind of thing than a meeting other aspies kind of thing. The other group they referred me to won't check their e-mail. Mad

Well, Aspirations is more than the eight-week group (which is sort of like a vocational/social skills training thing). There are also men's and women's social groups that meet 2 to 3 times a month and do things like bowling, playing board games, going to the movies, etc. There is also a book club that meets at the campus Barnes & Noble once a week (which I go to regularly). And once a month they hold "reunions" for the eight-week group (but I've never attended these).

Hmmm, I didn't know they did those other things. They sound interesting. I had heard about the reunions though. What kind of books do you read at the book club?( It's hard for me to read something that I am not interested in.) Do you all read the same book and then discuss it?
City driving makes me quite nervous though.

We read different sorts of books at book club. We vote on each new book as a group, hence the wide variety. The books we've read have included Good Omens, Brave New World, Twilight, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and right now we're reading Catch-22. Generally, we read around 60 pages each week and then discuss.
