I love Tim Burton. I love his latest DVDS. Edward Sissorhand was always a childhood favorite.

I don't think he does, by virtue of the fact that he's a director which is a job i'd imagine requires lots of human interaction and getting large groups of people to do as you please. Surely that would be extremely difficult for someone with asperger's.

But then again, Spielberg is officially an aspie...

Even if he doesn't, he sure has an excellent grasp on the pscyhological aspects of aspie thinking, I think. Although, my son doesn't particulary like his movie and seems disturbed. I, on the other hand, find him brilliant and especially his latest movie Coraline is eerie and artfully created. "Wyborn drew a long face" was the quote for at least a week and, so far, we've seen it 3x.

I read on AFF in someone's post who said Tim says he does.

Regarding your video, I think the print could be maybe 30% larger, and have better contrast. Otherwise, you did well. Who knows? It IS odd. I think any film that has a storyline that can attract people, is odd, and has a gimic, like his films do, can win awards. MANY have. Heck, look at metropolis! If it covered the same things to the same level, and looked the same as other films of its day, do you think it would be note worthy? I DOUBT it. But it was EDGY, EARY, and downright spooky, and parts of it may be in various media EVEN TODAY! I first found out about it because a CURRENT group(I think it was queen) included parts in one of THEIR videos. Later, I went to a showing by "die geothe institut" that got a montage pieced together from previously unknown clips. Who knows, maybe Fritz Lang had AS also. Then again, george lucas did the same sort of thing. ALL had edgy things using interesting methods/visuals, and all won awards.

To answer the question, I don't think he would have aspergers or autism. He's kind of an eccentric personality, but not on the spectrum.

fairly narrow to assume someone with AS cannot be a director. Obsessive interest, the capacity to hyperfocus, a capacity to communicate and talk in relation to a special interest.... persevering with specific goals, attention to detail....

Directing does not require "social" engagement with others. It simply requires the communication of what needs to be done. He would be working within the realm of a special interest.........

I do not know if Tim Burton is autistic or not. It's his business i suppose.
But lots of creative people are autistic and work in creative fields with others.
I'm not one of them. I need to work alone. But that does not mean they do not exist.

and there are plenty of people here on WP who go off to work each day or to college and work WITH people and manage to do that. Again, I am not one of them...not really possible for me...i am too severe to manage full days with people day in and day out - that is pure burnout and meltdown material for me ........but they do exist........

His wife Helena Bonham Carter said he was. Here's an excerpt from an article I read about it:

"Tim Burton may be autistic - according to his long-term partner Helena Bonham Carter. The 'Charlie and the Chocolate' director has some of the symptoms of Asperger's syndrome - a form of autism - because he is highly intelligent but lacks in social skills, according to the actress. "We were watching a documentary about autism and he said that's how he felt as a child. Autistic people have application and dedication. You can say something to Tim when he's working and he doesn't hear you. But that quality also makes him a fantastic father, he has an amazing sense of humour and imagination. He sees things other people don't see" Helena, who has acted in four of her partner's films, recently starred in a TV movie in which she plays the mother of four autistic children."

EDIT: Whoops! I typed this comment before I hit play on your video, obviously you already encountered this quote. :)

Tim's friend Henry Selick directed Coraline, who also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas which Tim couldn't direct because he was busy with Batman Returns.

He also directed Monkeybone and James and the Giant Peach =)

I've asked this before, I used to be a frequent visitor at a Tim Burton forum, and this question would crop up once in a while. I would think so, from watching Edward Scissorhands, and from seeing in interviews, he's got a very soft voice, and he's always gesturing to get his point across, since words seem to fail him sometimes. I've felt many times like Edward Scissorhands myself, that sad feeling of wanting to "touch" with the rest of the world, but being unable to.

I have Aspergers, and I plan on being a director when I am older.
I get along FINE and am usually the leader in video projects, and I am very focussed on my movies.
I don't have any problem seeing Tim Burton have Aspergers.
