Due to my sensory issues. I dislike doctor and dentist appointments. Often sedation is needed for dental procedures. Does anyone else have issues with this?

I like medical places. And I like hospitals too, I like the smells. So no I have no issues there.

At the dentist I used to get gas. Have you tried that?

It calms you down in a way. I have worried about not getting enough oxygen, though. So it's a trade-off.

I had braces for 4 and a half years so I had to get over my issue with people putting their hands & objects into my mouth. I don't & have never had any problems with going to the doctors.

I do, I'm not so bad with the dentist, but I HATE going to the doctors. I feel so violated, even if they only ask questions, or check my blood pressure.

Very high dislikes for both.

The dentist is usually incredibly painful, and two years of braces didn't exactly warm me to the idea of people sticking stuff in my mouth. And the smell makes me gag.

The doctor makes me feel really exposed, but I think everyone has that to certain extent. Because I've been doing physical therapy (bad knees) and because I know what "role" to play at the doctor's office (young, healthy but often injured athlete) I can deal with it. The questions are usually the same.

So long as it's for pt or a basic physical--the gyno is a whole other story.

Issues. Wink

Not so much with the dentist, I've been lucky and had some really good dentists over the years, no waiting, very understanding, and always making sure I don't feel anything.

Dr. is a whole different story, if I can make the long drive, survive the the hour long wait in the crowded waiting room, I am normally so on edge by the time I get in the actual office I don't want them touching me and I'm ready to flee.

...and when I'm sick my sensory issues are worse, I have to feel pretty close to death to go.

YES.

My sensory issues have caused me to despise going to the doctor. Oh my. The wait to see someone is terrible. I hate being treated like a number or a slab of meat. I can't stand giving blood since I have low blood pressure and they almost always have to stick the other arm to get enough. I am female and have recently taken the "no more male physicians" stand. Male doctors are not sympathetic to female issues. How could they be, they can't relate to how I feel, physically or emotionally!? I did see one guy years ago who was kind. Talk about a rarity!

Dentist visits are a little better, though not much. I've learned to take kava to relax my nervous system and I ALWAYS take my iPod. They've gotten wiser and offer you shaded eye protectors now, but I used to take sunglasses because the light was overwhelming! Not even going into the feelings that I'm being invaded.

I'm fine with doctors unless it involves getting blood drawn.

Dentists? I'm absolutely terrified. I hate having people's hands anthos stupid objects in my mouth *shudder* I go into full blown panic attacks before I even walk in the office. If they manage to get me in a chair? Even for just a cleaning? I shake so bad it's hard for them to do any work because everything is vibrating. They usually put a lead apron on me to calm me down. Last time they gave me laughing gas which helped. Apparently, I'm more relaxed when I'm high Laughing I was supposed to go back last year and get some work done and I have yet to back. It takes me forever to psych myself up for it.

I don't like them. I can manage the dentist but I HATE having blood drawn. I'll allow it, but it's so disgusting and scary.

I hate doctors appointments because of my sensory issues. I can not handle the crowded and/or noisy environments.. On top of that i also hate being around germs and sick people, so that is a nightmare.

Yes, they're both a nightmare. docs, dentists... Dentist: Mostly the pain and the icky stuff. Doctor: always afraid, very nervous very highstrung, even when I know excactly what to expect. I think I have doctorphobia.

I have a strong dislike of both, and I use avoidance to deal with this problem; (this has been the answer to most of my problems, just avoid them... Laughing ) Probably not good though, I should probably be getting regular checkups. And there are certain procedures that I vow NEVER to go through, due to sensory issues- (like having a tube put down my throat; only if Iīm completely knocked out and donīt know about it). So there are certain tests that I just never, ever, ever, want to go through!

Is that really necessary? No one in my family ever goes to a doctor unless they need to. How many do go to regular checkups?
