Okay, so I'm always wanting to eat things that are crunchy. (I'm putting this under General Autism Discussion because it's a sensory thing; I'd prefer it stay in here.)
I don't know what it is about crunchy things; I usually don't like when other people eat them because of the sound they make when chewed, but I could eat only-crunchy things forever. I just finished a bowl of Baked Ruffles, and I'm just like, "MORE."
I even eat crunchy things when I'm not hungry.
Problem is, I've gained quite a bit of weight over the past 6 months or so because I eat a lot of chips and stuff just to get that crunchiness. All the crunchy foods I like happens to be really bad for you. -.- I don't even necessarily do it for the food or the taste, just what it's like when chewed. If that makes any sense.

Can anyone else here relate to the above? Also, does anyone know of any crunchy foods that are healthy (besides celery; have tried it and I'm not too fond of it)? Or maybe something not food-related that I can do to make that craving for crunchy stuff become less intense?

I can relate to the eating when you're not hungry. It's out of boredom and just gives me something to do with my hands. I should be one of those sex addicts who whacks to porn all day. At least I wouldn't gain weight that way.

If I don't eat something crunchy on any given day, I definitely feel like something is missing. I recently got addicted to lentil chips, though I'm weaning myself off from them.

Yes, I am a misophonist's nightmare. I love crunchy things to eat and I love to make crunchy sounds, like walking on dry leaves or thin ice over puddles. I don't know why I find it so satisfying.

What about hard sweet apples for example 'Pink ladies' or if you like sourish tastes a nice hard green apple? I like how hard apples crunch for me perhaps you could get a good crunch from them too?

You could also try to make your own crisps: peel a potato and discard the skin, then use the potato peeler to get thin bits of potato until it's in bits. Soak the bits in a bowl of water then carefully dry them (kitchen paper works well for me), place on a a baking tray covered with greaseproof paper and spritz with a very small bit of oil. Put in the oven for about ten minutes. Very time consuming but they taste good.

It's healthier to make your own crunchy things if you have the time, you can control what goes in to it and know exactly what's in it. Some raw nuts also have a minor crunch factor as well.

my sack lunches take me half an hour to eat. mostly because there is so much chewing involved.

Yes! I was just thinking about this last night. Often I have to eat a bowl of cereal to get relaxed enough to go to bed. There's something about a starchy crunchiness, er, like of grains. Not potatoes which are starchy too I guess. And vegetable crunchiness does not do it for me. I have a weight problem too. I hope someone can think of something that's not food that would be a good substitute.

Carrots? Maybe raw peppers, brocolli or cauliflour? (Those last 3 might not be crunchy enough...)

Ice chips? (Lots of crunchiness, no calories.)
