I don't drink coffee so my caffeine mostly comes from soda. Yesterday I had a major caffeine crash after 1.5 drinks of Pepsi. I normally don't have a caffeine crash drinking that little. So I guess this means I have a problem and need to cut down fast. Luckily I only drank a 20 oz bottle and didn't have a crash.

My dad only buys Big K (Kroger store brand soda) which I think has some bad amounts of caffeine. I will get crashes just from drinking one regular glass of it compared to the name brand.

But I need caffeine just like everyone else due to my sleeping problems so it's a lose-lose situation here for me.

@crazycatlord. How long is this readjustment likely to take? I did lower caffeine intake quite slowly, reducing by 50% every 5 days or so. I still get around 100mg a day from sodas.

That depends on how much coffee you used to drink. I suppose you will start feeling more focused and energetic after a few more weeks.

Strangely coffee puts me to sleep.

When I was around 30, (and I didnt know what I had), I delved into Smart Drugs. These are ( legal) cognitive enhancers, and some require a script, though in the U.S. you can get em' without one. One I tried was Piracetam, (and all -racetams) and at that time I turned up nothing with these. It's a stimulant and it revs Acetylcholine up...........

But many do great with it.................in fact I tried a dose a year or two ago and it kicked something forward for the first time, as before I got nothing out of it.......I think it's age related now.

*One great thing for anxiety and is a good sleep inducer is Lecithin.

I can really slump into extreme executive dysfunction modes. It all starts as I develop a strange uneasiness and in short order it spreads or grows to a mass of confusion. Very forgetful, and I take things out of context, and hence make many mistakes-- physical and mental. It's a whopping flip flop from normal functioning to this.

My spatial perception changes to where judging distances is altered, and I drop things or cant hang onto them.

When I got into that mode, I heard comments that I look confused.......so I know it's not my own awareness exaggerating this.

I once told my wife the experience is like I'm the tin man on the Wizard of OZ. In the beginning of the show he was rusty and frozen there on the spot, and all you heard out of him was muffle of a voice coming from his silver hull. I said in essence one is frozen or can't reallly move here with this-- a time lag in cognition and nothing is really fluid at that point. She nodded.

At one time I discovered Ehedra, and it would knock down most of this. In fact within an hour, that mental state I described above there would flip back. ( Ephedra at this dose is no longer available)

It responds to stimulants, though in my case, caffeiene is somewhat inert.

I think it is all a cluster bugger of neurotransmitters and hence all ADD related.....Non AS related.

Why do people drink nasty coffee and unhealthy sodas for caffeine?
I just buy caffeine pills.
Much cheaper and healthier than coffee and soda.

Because I am not a pill popper & I am drinking coffee because it is a hot drink. I also don't see the point in pills, only if someone has a deficiency. I also do not see how it is healthier & I am sure if I research, I will probably see it is not. Although soda ye, but I only drink orangina, don't drink anything with aspartame in it.

My body doesn't seem to be able to handle caffeine. I love the taste of nice coffee, but if I have more than 2 cups a day I get so hyper I can't concentrate on anything, and I get the shakes real bad.

It's a pretty powerful drug, I think a lot of people underestimate it. Energy drinks with high doses of both caffeine and glucose are a particularly big shock to the system.

The real question you've got to ask yourself is, why do I need this? As David Baddiel notes in his book "Time for Bed" many insomniacs are caffeine addicts because they're so shattered during the day that they need the coffee to function. But of course that also means they don't sleep, so then they get up feeling shattered, and need another coffee.....

As others have said, a healthy diet and regular exercise seem to be the best long term alternatives. It's really a question of discipline - doing things right is much harder than the 'quick fix' of caffeine, or indeed nicotine. And that's not being preachy, it's just a truth. I can't handle coffee but I do still smoke and I drink a lot of alcohol, and I know I need to be healthier, but it isn't easy. If you have the time and the fortitude to see it through and play the long game rather than being reliant on quick fixes, that's admirable.

I cannot handle any caffeine at all. zero, zilch, nada.
Even a half cup of coffee and I would mentally and physically effed.

Only 2 other options I can think of is 5 hour energy and tea. I don't care for tea and 5 hour energy does not taste that bad, it is only 2oz.

I almost never have caffiene

Erm 2000% 40mg Vitamin B6 & 8333% 500mcg B12 in a 1.93oz bottle. Does not sound healthy.

2.4mcg rda B12. B12 toxicity is fun to read.
1.3 mg rda B6. 100 mg Tolerable Upper Intake Level.

Also depends on how much water you drink.

What colour was your pee?

I'm supposed to stay away from it due to a venous condition (caffeine dilates your veins).
Last time I indulged in it a lot (two cups of coffee and several of tea), I had a panic attack...in front of my parents.

Awkwaaaard.
