Although I work in the computer industry and have been doing almost everything on the internet for years, I hate to admit I have almost no experience with forums and blogs.
I am 33 years old and live just outside the Twin Cities in Minnesota. I only discovered Aspergers recently and am incredibly excited by it. I suddenly am able to point my finger at exactly what is "wrong" with me. More importantly, I can stop looking for what is wrong, because nothing actually is. I just am different. I am a very intelligent individual and have been able to do a pretty good job of pretending in order to fit in. I have spent years studying philosophy, psychology, history, law, etc. in order to try to understand human nature and how I am supposed to interact with it. I don't "get it" naturally but I have learned enough to commonly do what was expected. But I have to try hard, and it is pretty common that people assume that I am "off"or weird or a freak. Most people just have assumed that this is because I am "smart" or eccentric.
What do I like? I study everything. I need to understand how the world works. I am an avid reader. Unfortunately, I have already read almost all the books that would be called "classics". Have always enjoyed the sci-fi and fantasy genres for light entertainment. I write a lot. Philosophy mostly. I have spent a lot of time in bars since this is one of the few places I could let my hair down and try to socialize. Or pick up girls. I also used to enjoy acting but have not done it in a long time, except for working at the renaissance festival. I like fine things. I dress luxuriously. My wardrobe is all silk or cashmere (or softer wools or leather). When I first read about aspergers I knew it fit me but I just had to laugh when I came across that "softer" clothes was sometime a characteristic since that has always been my trademark.
I am not an ambitious person at all but I skyrocketed to a good job in the IT industry in my early 20's. Made just enough to be pretty comfortable and did not try to do any better. Then a few years ago I was laid off and had a hard time until recently.
Does that sum me up? |
Oh, wow. You seriously sound exactly like me and how I expect my life to go in a couple years.... And your wardrobe sounds freaking awesome. My friend has two black silk capes with hoods that we wear in public (while we're playing MTG or browsing the fantasy sections at bookstores). |

I'm Glynnis I'm from the Baltimore-DC metro area; I have been diagnosed since age 13. I enjoy reading encyclopedias, pharmacology manuals (Lippincott is my favorite by far), various ingredient labels, and billboards. I am an English/Biology major (great combo, haha) minoring in secondary education, and although I am very nervous in front of classes, it has proven to be an interesting journey.
Deep down, I kind of like meeting new people, but I tend to stutter a lot and mix my words terribly, as well as avoid all forms of eye contact. I relate far better to dogs than any human I've met. My dog is my best friend; he understands me very well. I enjoy photography- I have some technique down, I just have a very poor camera.
I have a huge interest in not only basic biological functions of the aspie brain, but behavioral aspects as well. I enjoy writing research papers for fun; it's always good to be current with new scientific studies.
I'm glad to be a part of the Aspie community, and I look forward to posting interesting material here _________________ La la la la la la la life is wonderful... |

Hey everyone. I've been a member for a while but I didn't come across this thread till now..so here goes.
Hi, my name is Zain. I'm 21 and currently halfway through my Bachelors' degree. I've lived in the UAE for 18 years and recently moved to Pakistan to complete my higher education. I've been a high-performing student throughout my life, and the 'odd one out' for equally long. Thinking in depth and pondering all angles along with imagining What If situations has been a hallmark of my life, so I started looking for answers a couple of years ago and came across Asperger's Syndrome; which seemed to fill all the blanks. I haven't gotten myself officially diagnosed yet as I don't want to be swamped with meds.
Enough about the boring stuff I'm very passionate about cars and enjoy an eclectic mix of music genres, including trance, tech house, classic rock, alternative, classical, reggae, old school rap and qawwali. Films are another area of interest.
Over and out. _________________ I'm not afraid of death.

Call me Fnord. I am a metasyntactic variable in the source code of life.
I am a 50-ish married white male, Navy veteran, Technical Specialist (Transportation Electronics), Elder of a Presbyterian church, and father of three men.
My wife and I live close enough to Disneyland to see the fireworks every night. We are both active in our church, and we enjoy asian and midwestern cooking.
Personally, I enjoy playing an RPG called "Traveller" ("Science-Fiction Adventure In The Far Future"), which has been around for 30 years. I am also a licensed amateur radio operator - designing and building my own equipment.
Taking any Asperger's Syndrome self-diagnostic test always indicates that I have a high probability of being an Aspie. My childhood may as well have been scripted by the test-writers. But I still have not been 'officially' diagnosed as an Aspie. It would explain a lot, but if word got out, I fear that there would be repercussions, both social and career-wise.
Drop a line.

Hi all,
I'm a 37 year old german programmer, living in Amsterdam/Netherlands by now.
I like biking, reading, programming, 3D rendering.
I have taken some self diagnostic tests in the internet and they all showed, that i'm most likely an Aspie. No big surprise.
Funny somehow, that i never did this before, since I knew well enough about my socialising trouble. Maybe I was sure enough of it anyway.
But I should have researched a bit. Some of the links on those test pages where very helpful, especialy that one to WrongPlanet. I read through some of the posts and was a bit astonished, to find some perfect matches to lot's of old questions. Mainly that eye-contact problem, described from the NT view, which I never really understood or was sure what they expect of me. I only knew, I did it wrong (by not having it at all) |
