Even though I'm classified as a prep at my school, I'll hang out with just about anyone as long as they're nice. _________________ "We got the feet back!"- Ruth Cole, 'The Door in the Floor' |

I am always somehow intrigued by a subculture like this. How can so many people who think it's very important to be original express this by basically trying to be exactly the same? Why are all these subcultures so full of rules while they should be free from the rest?
Still a pity since a lot of subcultures bring us something. On the other hand Ian Curtis (Joy Division for the culture barbarians ) did not need to dress up anything while singing Atrocity Exhibition to be more intense than any goth, ever. _________________ 'It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile

Actually, there's a LOT of variety among the different goth types (compare the victorian romantic to the rivethead in the neon-dreadlocks), and few goths claim to be original these days. Most that do are in places where goths are so uncommon that there's no goth culture to conform to. |

Why, thank you. I'm rather fond of it myself, since I've been attached to it these last five years. ^_____^ _________________ I would be the laziest girl in the world, but it's too much effort. |

that sums me up quite well, veresae.
id definitely say im associated to the scene somehow, but not to the degree of excluding everything else and being some kind of a goth conformist. its definitely a big part of me, but not all of me. theres geekdom, a fascination with japanese pop culture, and there also is music out there that isnt gothic but still interesting.
funny enough, i think thats more goth than following each and every patchouli rule although i dont really care about being more or less goth. |
One of the Gothest rules in is that you must have interests that aren't Goth. In fact some Goths go as far as not being into Goth at all and simply keeping the eclectic part, TheLadyMary is a good example of a Goth who isn't a Goth. _________________ "They do, but what do you think is on the radio? My house was "accidentally" built in the gothic style.
Of course I did have to take up 666 jobs, but I consider that a bonus that I can live with. _________________ "They do, but what do you think is on the radio? Meat sounds. How many Goths does it take to turn on a light bulb??
Whats a light bulb.
Why is it so hard for Goths to get work?
Because all they can do is mope the floors are depress the buttons. |

Ofcourse there are different types. If a subculture becomes too big there are subsubcultures etcetera. In the early 80s all Goths (don't know if the name existed in this way then, so the Avant-la-Lettres). To be more precise I have nothing against Goths as people and as a subculture as such there is nothing wrong with it. I am just always surprised by people saying things like 'to be a real .... you have to ....' or 'you can't do....'. That seems like binding oneself.
Hmmm, basically I am just saying I like eclectisism . _________________ 'It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile

| Well I like cold/dark wave, etherial, phychobilly and some old school goth like The Cure. I wouldn't really call myself a goth. I like the music, not that fussed about the culture and besides I like a wide range of styles of music. |

| People would always assume I was Goth, I thought they were very confused, I was into the Ramones and always wore black jeans and the Black Ramones t-shirt, its all I wore for 20 years, I do like some goth music, but consider goths to be to dramatic |
