Ohhh no no, I ended up in hospital with serious burns from a depilation cream!! I did a patch test like it said and nothing happened, so I put it on my entire legs and ended up in bandages for weeks, I've never felt anything more painful!! It was so so so awful, I still shudder when I think about it. Those things are so toxic anyway! The devil's work!!

Sounds to me like you had a severe alergic reaction. Am I wrong? |

Well, my skin's not super-sensitive and doesn't usually react to anything, but according to the doctors at the A&E department they do see burns from the creams fairly often, just not to that extent, and they tell people to stay well clear of them. Basically the ingredients are caustic and burn or dissolve the hair away, which can do the same to your skin...
Seriously, stick with a sugar wax, far less painful in the long run and nowhere near as toxic.

Hmm. I used Nair a few times in my early teens, and stopped because it just smells god-awful. Wax on the other hand- I waxed my legs once and really enjoyed the experience...then woke up with my legs completely covered in bruises. By the time the bruises went away, the hair had grown back.
Shaving really isn't too bad, especially if you do it at least once or twice a week. I used to hate it too, but once you get used to it your legs do feel really awesome for the next 2-3 days.
I'm kinda lucky in that I don't really have much, so I don't have to do it all the time. On my thighs I still only have the baby-peach fuzz, and I don't have to shave them if I don't want to. |

Not crazy about shaving, either, but I do it 1-2 times a week because I like the way my legs and armpits feel afterwards, esp. after I put on lotion. Those flimsy plastic razors freak me out, so I use the intuition razors, as it has this thick wall of lotion surrounding the blades.

Makes me wonder if there's some kind of topical substance to prevent bruising after waxing. If you have the $ you can have body hair permanently removed using lasers  . |

I tried waxing once, but it seems like the hairs have to be long for it to work? So I'd have to let them grow long again everytime I waxed, which isn't that practical when I want to be hairless (on my legs) all the time.
But maybe I did it wrong. |

Ok...I was going to try using creams, but now I think i'll just leave the hair where it is.

They are seriously so, so bad... Have you tried those mittens that rub the hair off? They're meant to be less painful.
I just wax, it's much easier and quicker.
Lurv - Yeah, it has to grow back relatively long, but each time you wax much less hair will grow back afterwards, and it comes back a lot finer and not as strongly coloured, and you don't get stubble. So it's not as bad as it sounds.

I've tried everything (with the exception of laser hair removal).
My hair is too thick for from the creams, it simply doesn't work.
Shaving only works for a day... if I'm lucky, then I'm back to nice lengthy stubble.
Waxing works the best, but I have to take it in steps; I overload if it is all done at once.

I would try laser hair removal if I had the money. About 20% of the hair will grow back. I read it does hurt, like rubber bands snapping on your legs.
I sometimes make sugar wax and use it. It hurts, it takes a long time to do my legs and it grows back, sometimes with ingrown hairs. |

I find shaving to be somewhat time consuming for me, so I don't shave my legs at all in the winter and only a couple times a week in the summer. No problem shaving my armpits every other day year round, however. Small space under there compared to my legs. 
I used to use Nair and loved the convenience of only having to slather on cream and rinse it off once a week. Unfortunately about a year ago I had an allergic reaction to it so I'm stuck with shaving now.
