Years ago I used to have lucid dreams. It was essentially being in the Matrix. There were moments where I would be in a completely boring, plot-less dream, then wake up inside it and turn it into something crazy. Akin to Garry's Mod. I would just spawn random objects or spawn random people and watch them interact. If was in a nightmare where I was getting chased by some scary creature, I could wake up in my dream, spawn myself a BFG and just blow it the f**k away.
Has anyone had a violent dream where they play the hero? I've had numerous dreams where I'm in a school and it's attacked by angry kids with guns like Columbine. I'm standing in a line with a 100 other people and watching one of the attackers go down the line shooting everyone in the face, starting on my right. To my right is the girl of my dreams and to the left is my best friend so I feel compelled to stop stop the attacker. When the attacker points his gun at the girl, I use my Krav-maga moves and disarm him and then smash his jaw with the butt of the pistol. Then, his backup across the room notices what just happened so I shoot him down. Then I take my damsel in distress home and give her something to scream about That's probably in response to my lack of connection with women...I believe dreams reflect subconscious thoughts and desires. I've woken up in these dreams too, and I've spawned myself weapons and body armor and cloaking devices.
Not all my dreams are violent...but when I am violent in my dreams it's always for a good cause to save people from something terrible. It just concerns me that I'm dreaming about people getting shot in the face after going to campus when i could be dreaming about something a lot more pleasant. |

| I never lucid dream. All my dreams are visual, and I'm almost always me in first person view. |

I don't remember my dreams so much anymore. The ones I remember always include all the senses, sight, sound, touch, smell, even pain.
I do remember having some really bizarre nightmares when I was little. The most traumatic nightmare happened when I was put on some kind of stimulant medication when I was 6 years old. I opened my eyes and saw this large black cat sitting at the end of my bed. Only it wasn't a normal cat. It had horrible frightening eyes that more closely resembled human eyes than the eyes of a cat, only weirder - a sort of cloudy, androgynous, empty stare. The thing looked absolutely demonic to me. Then it spoke telepathically to me saying "I'm the cat that eats your nose" before vanishing.
I insisted on sleeping in my parents bed for a month after that, even after they took me off the medication. |

I usually dream of different landscapes and weird geometric shapes. I often dream as if I can fly... and in a very weird way - it is like - you fall if you are scared. I also have story dreams (where I am put in a context).
I remember I dreamed that I was flying in Mesosphere - where it is very cold - It felt good and I have even named one of my songs after it.
I often dream that I am telekinetic. One of my favorite dreams was when I was showing off my telekinetic abilities (in a dream of course - I wish I would have them in real life) |

I have VERY intense dreams. With logic out the window, the story still goes pretty lineairly, it's just that you climb stairs that lead to water, then you enter a PuddleJumper to save your friends from Ze Evil Man in a cave on mars...(!?)
...yeah. Well, I DO control my dreams but only when they get messed up. I only actually REALIZE it's a dream when I'm in a pinch.
This one time, I was a kid, my mom had fled my dad recently(!), and I had a dream of waking up..At that point I had a hunch I was dreaming...And I went downstairs, and saw my mother talking with my aunts and uncles, LOUDLY, under a deep, smellable blanket of cigarettes. I nudged my mom, and she glared at me as..well..Y'know, Vamp-face, from Buffy. So I skittered to the toybox, got some Lego Duplo, built a li'l contraption, left it at the bottom of the stairs, ran back up, got into bed RIGHT when my mom was gonna pounce me..
And I woke up, didn't panic, just went downstairs, looked for any Lego, there was none....
Then I went back to sleep, and in my dream I walked in on my mom, in her room, having a meet-up with everything from the Xenomorph to Dracula. So I basically conjured up what can nowdays be best described as a Protoss battle armor, and blew ém all to bits.
That morning, I woke up with a smile... |

| My dreams are mostly anime, so, of course, they're visual and audible. I can't control them, nut I remember them very well. |

| Quote: | | I find a paradox in that, though - if I look directly at a specific object in the (lucid) dream world, with the intent of focusing on it and examining it closely - it disappears, or shifts to the immediate edge of peripheral vision, so that I can't. | Well, there's only so much you can generate mentally... I have never, for example, been able to create and keep in my mind anything more information-intensive than a single sentence, a simple object, or a general, undetailed scene like a cityscape or a forest. Everyone's mind is different, though. I don't know why things get indistinct when you focus on them, any more than I know why I have an almost automatic ability to move things mentally, but really struggle to do things like creating a fireball or keeping the identity of dream characters from shifting from one person to another. I think it's just a quirk of consciousness that you can have fun with; there's nothing all that important about your experiences while you're asleep.
The idea that dreams are deeply connected to your unconscious is quite an outdated one--though if something shows up constantly in your dreams, it is quite likely that this is something you are thinking about often--perhaps some sort of "unfinished business" or a preoccupation that could be good, bad, or indifferent. If you're dreaming about something, then that thing probably has the same meaning in the dream as it does in waking life, with all the connections you make to that concept or object.
Dreams also apparently have a function in processing trauma, which is why people with PTSD have such a problem with nightmares--their dreams have become somehow unable to process what they have experienced, and to integrate it into their daily life; so they re-experience their past when they sleep. I had this problem myself, for quite a few years. I still have occasional nightmares; but my tendency towards lucid dreaming has allowed me to actually take control of the nightmare and force myself out of it a lot of the time. I had such a nightmare a few days ago, actually; and while I wasn't able to get out of it because I didn't know it was a dream, I realized I could simply leave the situation I found myself in (as usual, back at home with my abusive stepfather)--which is a huge indicator of recovery, because it means I now find myself powerful enough to handle the situation; I've moved on and integrated it into my concept of my past and my present. Appropriately, I've had PTSD dropped from my basketful of diagnoses for a little over six months now. _________________ Engineering student. Gamer. Christian. Asexual. Information Addict. I voted "Other, no control over them" because I have textual, audible and visual dreams. My dreams are very vivid but unfortunately are usually not very nice. I often dream about violence, being trapped, plane crashes, something being on fire and tornados. Just recently there have been some plane crashes and two nights before they were on the news I dreamed about them. I don't know why. _________________ I = Vegetarian!

I have dreams that feel as real as life. Once I had a dream my dog killed my cat and the next morning I scolded my dog while looking for my cat. Fortunately the cat was alive.
So I chose 'visual, no control'. There has been a rare occasion where I can control a dream. _________________ Don't count your problems, count your blessings

There's really something here. Most of my dreams are bizarre like those mentioned here like pools of cheese or last night I angered a leprachaun who was seeking revenge by making my 1 year old bump her head cosmically somehow. Most people in my life are so amazed at how vivid and strange my dreams are. I bought a Dream Dictionary by Betty Bethards and was pretty happy with it as it seems to work for me. Either way, maybe there's something here regarding research of dreams between Aspies and NTs.
Oh, I do have control when I don't like what's going on, and I often do wake up for a second and return rewinding my dream to somewhere where I can change what I didn't like (or add people or something). Sometimes I dream like i'm watching a movie where I'm not in the movie then morph to where I am someone else which morphs into me but the same plot working itself throughout. I love when I dream that I'm flying upward or flying like Mario in Mario 3.
If Aspies dream similarly, I totally don't recommend sleeping to the tv.
What's really weird, now that I think about it, I lose weight and feel stronger when I dream I'm working out a lot. Like I wonder if I actually use my muscles like Pilates (however you spell that). |

My dreams are very real too. It's really annoying on little things where you wake up and are not sure if things really happened the day before or if you dreamt it somehow, like conversations with people, arguments, things you need to do (or did you already do them), etc. Very often do I think like when it comes to bills, "...but I already paid that..I swear I paid it...I remember writing the check for that amount and mailing it, but wait, I never mail it when I write it because I never have stamps, so I must of dreamed I did that..." |

| More I think about this, I wonder if our minds operate a little like the theory behind PTSD where we keep a lot of stuff (too much stuff) on our minds and we don't really file it for later. That might explain why we get lost in our thoughts, tend to monologue and talk in circles, hold a grudge longer than most people, etc. Just a thought from the top of my head. |

My dreams tend to be realistic, very random in subject matter, with no control, and usually I wake up the next moring without a clue what I was dreaming about, or if I dreamed at all. My best friend swears up and down that he has this recurring dream that is like a TV show with episodes, and it has something to do with us, our classmates, and Final Fantasy. I usually act like I believe him, but it's a little hard to swallow. _________________ The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your horizons! |

So far, 22 % have answered they had control over their dreams. Even though the number is not as high I expected, I think it still is higher than "normal."
I read that in autistic brains the conscious mind was more connected to the subconsciousness, so that could explain the lucid dreams, too. |

My dreams are usually all about geometry, how to solve my problems and the future..daydreaming is also a part of my daily routine.I can't sleep without imagining anything.Sometimes I can control them, sometimes not..
once,I was scolded by my aunt for putting a wrong server IP on the computer and I dreamt of me searching the IP on my closet...I thought it was just a dream but my aunt told me it was true and she narrated what happened
2am,I suddenly woke up
me:I need to find it!!
Aunt heard me screaming..
aunt:find what?
me:the server IP so that you'll not be angry
aunt:and u think u'll find it there?!
me:server IP!!(cry)
Then I fell asleep
weird right?Server IP can be found in the computer and not in the closet
