Yes. They leave you on hold for about an hour, I'm not the only one. It costs a fortune to talk to somebody at all in the first place, and then they say I can't have any refunds before now, but they can put a stop to it if I will send back the bottles, which I have never received. They ask if I ever tried to cancel before, and do I have proof? Of course not! How can I have proof of emails and phone calls? Then they say they will do something about it and that they will call me back (not!) or I should call them back (a call center, no record of my previous call).
And *then* ... are you ready? ... the next day they send me another email thanking me for my continued support and announcing tha they have sent another bottle and charged me another $85.

I suppose I should say something about Asperger's and these merchants. I'm really lousy on the phone. It exhausts me. It makes demands of performance that I can't meet. Usually I'm okay because I've constructed a world within my scope of performance. But these marathon phone calls are so hard they take a whole day's energy.

I was thinking the same thing, although it might be a bit of a last ditch resort. Also, threaten to shame them to the media for preying on vulnerable disability groups.
Why the banks protect these people is beyond me. Ebay is another organization notorious for this. I don't buy the excuse that it would make merchants wary to accept credit cards. If you're above board, then no worries right? I don't think it would be that hard to police any unscrupulous CC holders if they tried to take advantage.

I have received nothing from them, not even the free sample. Have you heard, an online Acai berry website that was circulating on the website is an scam by ripping off subscribe customer by over-charging.
I hope that you could understand what is right and wrong to Acai berry business. |

| What an outrageous situation. There must be a way to get out of that; if this company decides to up their price to $1000 a month (or a million, and first-born child, what the heck) ...there's just no way way you can be expected to have no way out of that. I remember my parents having a dispute with company that was stalling on refunding their money. They wrote the state attorney general's office, who did call the company, which scared them into FedEx'ing a check the next day. I guess they were afraid of the hint of an actual investigation happening. Maybe try the equiv. Canadian governmental body? |

Did you look at the terms and conditions before you ordered? Do they mention this monthly charge? Do they mention which company you have an agreement with? If you get bills from companies you didn't sign an agreement with, then you should be able to refuse those bills, and perhaps get at the original company for violating the Terms and Conditions.
Contact your local post office, or if you are at home when your post is delivered, ask for assistance. Whoever delivers your post may not remember whether you got any parcels or not, but might be willing to make a note when you do get a parcel. Or the post office may even have computer records of what they received. Then if the company claims to have sent you something but you can prove you have received nothing, you can perhaps show they have broken the agreement, and get out of it and perhaps get your money back.
What has your credit card company said about you not getting anything?

You can probably find more examples. My search term was "acai berries free sample shipping". Add the word "scam" to the search term, and you get more specific information. The first of the links I listed includes the Terms and Conditions.
Send an email to cancel, print out, and also send them a letter by recorded delivery, so you can prove they got your cancellation. That should at least stop them.

I remember looking at the acai websites (before they hacked the yahoo account of someone I knew in order to spam..) and they did say stuff about signing you up for several different things with monthly fees, as well as post things that if they're not considered outright lies, certainly aren't TRUE.. like one saying something about "I've lost XX lbs so far.. and what's REALLY amazing is that I'm keeping it off!" Err.. by definition, you can't be "keeping the weight off" if you're still losing weight. It's a scam, scam, SCAM. And I can't imagine that all the famous people whose names they're borrowing to try to promote their scam sites are appreciating it, either. There's all the "as recommended by Oprah" "as seen on CNN" kind of stuff all over the sites..
Another thing I noticed is that whenever I saw one of those acai ads, it led to a different site. Obviously NOT legit.
Which is why, despite my desperate desire to lose weight, I held off on trying it until the stuff finally showed up in all the vitamin and supplement isles, where a bottle can be bought for less than $10, with no commitments to anything else involved. (Haven't noticed anything amazing, btw..) |
