I think that referring to self in the third person is more of something that's associated with Classic/Kanner's autism. My 7 y/o never once used the words I, me, or my before he was 4 in a half yrs old. It was always "Nathaniel want juice."....

I did this too at that age. Thanks for your informative post. Is this type of language thing also considered an Asperger trait? Or just Kanner's?

As far as I know it's considered a strong indicator of ASD/PDD, but I don't know that it points to a specific ASD. There are so many factors that can go into account when a clinician is making a diagnosis. If you had no other speech delays in childhood, then I'd think that you could be considered to have Aspereger's. My son did, so that's why he couldn't be dxed as AS. He also had very little social speech, extreme echolalia, and idiosyncratic speech patterns, ie, he answered most of the doctor's questions with the phrase "buffalo chicken" because that was his echoliac phrase at that time. He was dxed by 2 doctors as PDD-NOS.

The last time I saw someone talk in the third person was on an episode of Seinfeld called "The Jimmy" where Jimmy talked in the 3rd person.

lol. Don't forget Cowboy Bebop and Edward Razz

yeah ive heard of the idea of autistic people referring to themselves in the third person. It depends on the person, and IIRC isn't it "LFA" people who more do that

I refer to myself most of the time as "We", I don't have DID or anything but I feel like more of a "we" than "me" if that makes sense Laughing

I do this when I am talking to myself, and I occasionally, when frustrated with myself, I will call myself by name. I am not DID either, but I experience my mind as having sub entities, or as if my right brain and left brain almost process thoughts separately. However, I never refer to myself in third person to others.
