Aussiebloke, I've never been mentioned in any threads like this one either and I exude positivity, no matter what's going on IRL. I rarely speak about any negative stuff on here, a bit in the parents' forum, but my posts are first and foremost positive. I do often wonder what it is about me (Is it because I'm married with a child, i.e. boring?) But it's really not that important, on the scale of things. Then again, I never mention anyone at all, because I don't like missing anyone out. Try not to worry about it.

The things I notice about the people who seem to be popular in these sort of threads:

They tend to be young; usually in their teens or early 20s.

They post a lot in the random chat type threads, and seem to be comparatively skilled in light-hearted social banter.

They are usually quite willing to chat with anyone who joins in on their threads, although, quite reasonably, they do talk to their friends more.

So youth, social chitchat ability, prolific posting and friendliness seems to be the winning combination.
I think I've only been mentioned once, and I'm fine with it. Life is not a popularity contest anyways. Smile
I think most of these criteria fit me. Maybe it's because I ramble on about Portal too much. Laughing

you're not a massively prolific poster in Random, where this thread is located.

I might also seem to be boring to maybe a few select members, because I'm beyond my years. It's as though I should have been coming of age in the 1960s instead of the 1990s as a male, instead of a female in England instead of Canada. That's why I might seem boring to some members of my generation. Having said that, what I think of myself is all that matters. I don't think I'm boring at all. I think and feel that I'm interesting to most of the people on WP and in real life, because I am so different. Boring is a state of mind. You are what you think you are.
You're not boring and I don't think I'm boring either. But, I wonder if my username and the little that others know about the real me make me seem homely and bland. I do a lot of things and I've got loads of interests and end up in the most unusual places (accidentally or otherwise), including this weekend - I somehow ended up at a family friendly political gathering, when the knitting workshop we were going to was cancelled. Yet, I think I speak a lot about myself on here, definitely more than many members, who, despite their frequent posts, we know very little about.

oh, you're definitely not boring. Wink

Dear WhoAmI,
The reason that Certain Frequent Posters say very little about themselves is that their mission is to infiltrate and investigate Human Earth Verbal Interaction so as to teach their brethren how to best fit in.
But that will not happen until the rest of the Great Interstellar Transports arrive.

I have a massive list of people from WP I'd like to meet, I'm just too lazy to type it all.

That said, I'd love to just run into someone from WP, so if you're in the Laramie area (not likely since there's nothing here) this summer keep an eye out for me. I'll be the one doing the insane parkour stunts all around campus just because I can.

That's probably the main factor. Many members do stick to one or two forums. I'm spread throughout WP and this is not one of my main forums. So someone like me is perhaps not so noticeable to the ones who reside here a lot. Maybe you've hit the nail on the head for us, Hyperlexian.

Everyone... We all greet each other, shake hands, and on to the next person. Wow... That's gonna take a long, long, long, long time.

As a thoughtful person who respects my fellow WP family members, I would like to meet a like minded person who has a positive attitude. Smile
