Especially because I am very lyrics-focussed, and IMO that is the one side in which the Beatles weren't that brilliant, especially the first years their lyrics were quite pointless really.

That's a pretty unfair thing to pick on considering their context.

To me the lyrics will be one of the main differences between good music and great music. The Beatles' lyrics just don't do it to me, bar a few exceptions such as Dear Prudence, The Fool On The Hill, Strawberry Fields Forever, .... But many of their songs are lyrically not really moving me. That doesn't mean it's bad music, but I doubt I'll ever be a real fan of the Beatles. I can enjoy their songs, but it's not really the type of music that gives me an urge to play it over again.

I've always thought that 'She's Leaving Home' and 'Getting Better' are two examples of really stellar lyrics from the Beatles. The former is just a vivid story song with every detail beautifully laid out, the latter is a song about rebellion and domestic abuse that's so far ahead of its time when you think about it.
