^^^^ I loved this thread too because this is something normal people DEFINITELY don;t talk about IRL or admit to doing (unless maybe you admit it first). I pick my nose a lot but I don't eat it. I did eat it when I was a kid. The feel of anything around the sides of my nostrils drives me crazy and it's really hard not to pick. I wash my hands after I do it but I get colds and things a lot and so I'm trying to stop now (thinking maybe I don;'t wash my hands quickly enough or thoroughly and the germs spread and it contributes to be getting sick a lot). It's really hard to stop...sometimes all I can think about is the feeling of something on the side of my nose. Buggars are trapped dirt and bacteria so it must not be healthy to spread it around or touch it (or eat it) right?

I admit that I do pick my nose. That's also why I carry tissues with me all the time. I just can't stand it when it feels like there's something in my nose. I don't eat the boogers, though. At least not the drier ones. However, when they're still moist, I do swallow them. Although I've heard that it can be beneficial to your immune system. And really, I think everyone swallows mucus from the nasal cavity. I'm sure plenty of it drips back into the throat.

How do you know if it's just another ''Aspie thing'' (just like everything else in the world is)? I bet NTs pick their nose too, just not in sight of other people. It's just another one of those common habits that most find disgusting when seeing others do it, like spitting, clicking joints, biting nails, and making oneself bleed. How do you know only ASPIES do it?

Nose picking is not a sign of AS. It's a stim, yes, but it's one of the stims that NTs often show as well.

Is there significance in the answers to the questions:

Why did you pick your nose? (eg, nervous, excited, bored, it itched...)
Where did you do it (ie, in public, private, both)
Until what age did you do t?
Do you do it still?
How did you respond to being told not to do it?
Did it/does it bother you if others do it?

Probably, but I don't have any data about that.

Because my boogers itch.

Anywhere, though in public I often shield my nose from view when I'm doing it.

Do it still.

That may be why I didn't outgrow it. I hate being nagged, and it generally has the opposite effect from what the nagger wants.

Kind of. I try not to pay attention.

Why did you pick your nose? (eg, nervous, excited, bored, it itched...)
The feeling of it being lodged there and the desire for the taste of my own booger.

Where did you do it (ie, in public, private, both)
In both, though I try to have people not looking.

Until what age did you do t?
Still do.

Do you do it still?
Yes.

How did you respond to being told not to do it?
Did it secretly.

Did it/does it bother you if others do it?
Yes.

Why did you pick your nose? (eg, nervous, excited, bored, it itched...)
Likely because it itches and because I saw other kids my age do it back then.

Where did you do it (ie, in public, private, both)
A little bit of both.

Until what age did you do t?
Around age 12.

Do you do it still?
Not as much, no. I usually use tissues.

How did you respond to being told not to do it?
As a kid, it frustrates me. I don't really care about it now, since I don't do it much anymore.

Did it/does it bother you if others do it?
Nowadays, seeing other kids younger than me pick their noses kind of gross me out a little.

Why did you pick your nose? (eg, nervous, excited, bored, it itched...)

No idea. I just did it and had the urge to.

Where did you do it (ie, in public, private, both)

Both

Until what age did you do t?

I still do it

Do you do it still?

Yes

How did you respond to being told not to do it?

I stop

Did it/does it bother you if others do it?

I am too in my own world to even notice or care so it baffles me why it would bother anyone else when I can easily block things out with my own mind and what I am doing and thinking about anything on my mind or my own interests. Do other people not do this? Why not?

I've always been a nose-picker.

Eater, too, if I'm honest.

I don't do it in public, just in private. At least I'm that restrained.

It always sort of bothers me if I breathe through my nose and there's something obstructing that breath. That's usually what prompts a good delving.

Some fun/gross facts about noses.

1) Did you know that mucus(snot) is used as a filtration medium. for as gross as snot is, It is use to remove particles from the air that you inhale keeping your lungs clean.

2) Did you know that boogers are nothing more then dried-up snot. when snot dries up. It will loose about 90% of its volume.

3) Did you know that back-blowing your nose and swallowing your snot(used dirty snot.) is a natural act. Just like any air filter, It will become saturated and is no longer effective at doing it's job and therefore will need to be replace. back-blowing your nose is the act of douching your sinuses so that new clean snot can come it. And after you back-blow your nose and have that used dirty snot in your throat. You swallow it. Hey! for as gross as this may sound at least it doesn't taste bad.

4) Did you know that when you sneeze. You create a powerful vortex wind in your sinus with wind speeds at 650 to 850 mph (mach 0.9 to 1.2). If you ever been around someone who sneeze so loud that there is a sharp crack . That means that the wind in there sinuses was traveling faster then the speed of sound.

There not booms. there a sharp crack. If you shoot a gun and the bullet comes out faster then the speed of sound. It will not Boom, it will crack. Airplanes, because of there size will boom.
