At first I didn't think it was spam, so I replied  She responded soon after, requesting to chat over email rather than PM. I haven't written back. After reading this thread, I realized these messages are probably spam. I looked at her profile and noticed she hasn't made any posts. This fact alone doesn't make someone a spammer, but doesn't it seem strange that she would PM a member before even introducing herself on the boards?

They will just lead you on, maybe send you photos of some random girl they lift the photos off somewhere on facebook or elsewhere. Sooner or later she'll need money to "visit" you or some other personal crisis! The less ambitious scammers just sign your email address up for spam from porn sites. You should read how elaborate some of these scams get. Some go on for months with loads of "romantic" emails exchanged. I read of a lonely millionaire who got snared up with one of these people and he got sucked into believing there really was romance there; but it just turned out to be some Nigerian male / Russian mobster playing him for his money. The scammers make lots of money if they snare the right person. People on WP just make easy targets because many people with Aspergers are, shall we say, a little on the naive side. Most probably aren't rich, but they are easy targets. From what I can gather WP is nothing special though, they target all internet forums.
