The octagonal lantern (completed in 1340) at Ely Cathedral.
To give an idea of the scale, this is 74 feet wide and 65 feet high from its base to the roof boss (just out of shot), and the roof boss is 142 feet above the cathedral floor.
The painted angel panels (added in 1874) open inwards, and all that would be seen of person looking out is their head, just visible at the foot of a portrait.

Here's another one of the lantern at Ely, taken from further away so you get a better idea of the scale of this thing.

And while I'm still at Ely, here's one of the rather nicely painted organ.
(looking a little like a wall-mounted Christmas cake)
