I was considered a free spirited eccentric intellectual. I wouldn't say I fit in with everybody but I got along with most everyone with a few exceptions.
I was in the art club, I also hung out with music nerds and generally smart kids a lot.
Some of the dumber folks, jocks, and agricultural kids didn't really know what do do with me so I was interpreted as "fag" or "queer" even though I'm not gay.
So I wouldn't say freak but definitely different. |

| Yes I was told a few times I was. My brother beat someone up just because they called me weird, but there was no need, I agreed that I was (and still am). |

I've been called psycho because I have tried to put a deathspell on myself to prove that ghosts and stuff is rubbish.
I've been called a nerd. but mainly because i play alot of computer and i enjoy science even in my spare time.
I've been called a harddrive because I can remember stuff people even can't remember a part of.
The only female friend(not girlfriend) i've ever had is also a "different".
So right now i only fit in with some guys that are my friends and we make out the group "nerds" _________________ AS: 132

| I was viewed as hybrid athlete/ quiet guy who doesnt talk to many people. I played football and wrestled in high school so i was very much involved in sports but I mostly kept to myself and maybe a group of 8 friends. I was on friendly terms with almost everyone in my grade and ppl in other years as well. |

I don't know what people thought of me in highschool. My social skills have gotten a bit better since then, and back then I could never tell when people were being genuine. I don't know what all people said behind my back. In college (now), I'm sure they are people who think I'm weird, but I'm not considered a freak or an outcast by any means. _________________ After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. I'm regarded as abnormal, but people also ask me for homework help and are rarely (openly) hostile to me. _________________ Guns don't kill people--Magic Missiles Do.

I was called 'Freaky' in highschool. Or SHL, which was my chat handle at that time. _________________ I am not a native speaker. Please contact me if I made grammatical mistakes in the posting above.

I was considered a freak in both high school and college, but at least in high school I had other misfits to hang out with. However, in college, the only place where people really "knew" me very well was Chinese. I had class with mostly the same people for 2 years straight, and people started avoiding me like the plague by spring of freshman year. Nobody dared to say anything to my face, but that's likely because I look like someone who'll quickly send you to the hospital if you piss me off enough. |

I was definitely a "freak" in middle school. I had like 2 other friends who were also considered weird, and together, we kept each other company. I remember one time my school decided to switch everyone's lunch hours and force assigned tables because the new principal thought it was a genius idea to make all the kids get to know each other and "reduce bullying." It certainly wasn't a genius idea. I got separated from my 2 friends, and I was forced to sit at a table with like 9 "popular" kids. It was excruciating. I was already painfully shy and awkward to begin with, but here's what happened: when I first got to the table, I was the second person to get there. The girl who was already there acknowledged me, but she clearly didn't want to be seen sitting with me. Then another popular guy came, and asked me to move over so he could sit with the girl. I moved over. Then like 3 more people came, (all popular, all friends with each other) and each of them asked me to move over. So I ended up moving over a seat, again and again, until I was at the very last seat of the table and everyone else assigned to the table had sat down. I sat there, completely ignored, completely and utterly alone. I still remember to this day the horrid feeling I got in my throat from trying so hard not to cry while swallowing bites of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
By high school, I was still definitely "weird," but thankfully my high school had like 3,000 kids in it, so I and my 2 friends from middle school were able to join the other "weird" kids, and things were a little less lonely. This was also a time when my best friend (who is still my bff to this day) got a lot closer, and she being a NT (and yet actually understanding/accepting me!), I was able to learn quite a lot of social skills from her example.
I am currently in graduate school, and I've found this to be quite similar to when I was an undergrad: most of the students there are there to learn and not really make friends, so I've found that the social rules seem to fall in line with those of the "acquaintance" category, and I've been able to act as such. Of course, I get the occasional person who seems to want to be my friend, and then the awkwardness ensues. However, I did join my college's radio station, which seems to have a lot of people with ASD tendencies, and I find that I feel tons more comfortable with them, even though I'd say I'm not really super-close friends with them. I should also note though, that my college is more of a commuter school. It does have dorms, but I think the ratio is something like 70% commuter and 30% dorm dwelling students. |

Yes! Love it.
I used to be in with the 'popular' crowd (even then I was described as a little odd) before thinking... y'know what, screw it. Now my tendancy to go barefoot whenever I can, jump up and down, tacklehug my friends, randomly lick my friends faces, stay silent and not make eye contact to anyone but my friends... Yep, weird alright! |
