Movies I liked:
A.I.
El Orfanato (horror)
Pan's Labyrinth

Movies I didn't like:
The Butterfly Effect
Donnie Darko
Cold Mountain
Into the Wild

When I was a kid, I found Dumbo too depressing to watch Laughing

Just saw The Illusionist (2010). You can add that one to my list. Also, the post above reminded me about Into The Wild, so I'll put the stamp on that one too.

To me, any film with successful rich career people is depressing. Sad

What Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, in that order. You will develop a very strong admiration for Sam Raimi.

Now, watch Spider-Man 3. You will begin to seriously consider suicide as a way to free yourself from the joyless void that will replace your soul.

Jokes aside, I think Silent Hill could be considered a pretty depressing film, specially the part where they reveal the town's backstory.

I would say The Wall is very depressing, but I unless you like Pink Floyds album of the same name you probably won't like it.

Anyways I will have to see if any of these suggestions are on netflix because I have my friends house to myself so I can watch whatever the hell I want as there are not people playing video games on it anymore and what I want to do is watch something depressing.

On The Beach, either version. That is all.

Then there was The Sunset Limited. I just don't remember much about it, but I liked the concept.
It's about two strangers one of whom is going to suicide at the dawn. One is believer the other well.. Just like me I guess.

speaking of the first australians i cant believe i didnt mention rabbit proof fence. it's about a family from the stolen generation and unfortunately it's based on a true story. this crap actually happened. real life is worse than anything we could ever invent sometimes.

That's a great film and really sad because it's true. 'Australia' raises the subject too.

Here's some more depressing films:

Hotel Rwanda
The Last King of Scotland
The Pianist
Schindler's List
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
In the Valley of Elah

I don't think I want to see War Horse, as I can't imagine seeing that, without being in floods of tears.

'Mary and Max' & '500 Days Of Summer' are pretty depressing, good though! ditto 'Requiem'

I'll second (500) Days of Summer too. I hate most romantic films but this one's different and really rather emotional.

I shall also suggest One Day; I personally haven't seen the film but if it even comes close to the book then it's very good.

I literally felt upset after watching Wilde, even though it's not like the entire film is depressing.

I got upset the first time I watched Control because Ian Curtis was a bit of a c**t. Razz Hmm, I seem to like biopics.

Spirited Away

And it was quite trippy too, in a creepy way.
