Yes, in the UK they're known as "thick-cut chips" or "chunky chips". They're thicker than the usual sized chips.
Also, the story behind that photo was that I wanted to try a beer of a brewery in Belfast, Northern Ireland (the Hilden Brewery, just outside Lisburn) but the only way I could properly do this was by visiting a restaurant. For them to get around the regulations that alcohol could not be served on its own, I had to have a plate of chips. They were alright about it, and I got my pint or two of chocolate stout.  |
